Hi Lisa C, magnets have been used for pain relief for hundreds of years, and although there's no scientific evidence that they work, thousands of people swear by them. People all over the world use them for aches and pains stemming from medical problems like arthritis and migraine headaches.
Magnet come in two types: static, and pulsed.
Static magnets are widely available in many forms, including: bracelets, necklaces, mattress inserts, shoe insoles, and cushions. The magnetic fields are said to help common aches and pains, and to enhance quality of life.
Pulsed electromagnets are available with machines and pads designed to improve circulation and allegedly provide many many benefits, like assisting in cell regeneration.
There's no conclusive evidence that magnetic therapy gives pain relief, but there's a lot of anecdotal evidence.Pleas look article: http://www.askedweb.com/askedweb/Magnets_For_Pain_Relief_-_Do_Magnets_Provide_Pain_Relief/

It is cheaper to buy medium power magnets than trying to make them. And the method of using them is available in standard books on magnetotherapy.
