The main reason would probably be that Firefox is a bit safer if for no other reason than because IE is used more and if someone is going to try to exploit a browser's weaknesses, they might as well go after the one that has more users. A recent CNET "prizefight" between the two wasn't even close, as Firefox swept all five categories: "Installation Woes", "Look and Community", "Tabbed Browsing", "Cool New Features", and "Security". The flexbeta.net article lists 13 reasons why to choose Firefox over IE. Probably my own top three reasons not mentioned there would be:
1) Microsoft stopped support for Windows 2000 at IE 6 and I don't have the money (nor do I want to bother with the hassles) of upgrading;
2) Firefox is a lot more customizable and there's a bunch of extensions that, as far as I know, IE doesn't offer any equivalents for (such as AdBlock+); and
3) Firefox offers keyword searches and I don't recall IE doing so.

It's widely believed to be 'safer' than IE. Whether that's (still) true or not... From time to time it gets attacked more than IE but, generally, it's gets fixed faster. When it was first released it had some nice features that IE6 hasn't, such as tabbed browsing. IE7 is more like Firefox in many ways, although some people have problems with IE7.
Opera has a lot going for it. It's small, fast. and gets attacked far less than IE or Firefox, although that *may* be because FAR fewer people use it and therefore it's not so worth the bad guys attacking it. Whatever the reason, it's got a lot going for it.

Internet Explorer is very vulnerable to being hijacked by malicious code such as spyware, adware, malware. It also allows this type of software to pass right through and become installed on your system. On the otherhand, Firefox is a more robust browser that doesn't natively allow all that mentioned to happen. It's just overall a better browser and it's free!

the only reason i use firefox its because I find it much easier to works with the keyboard shortcuts
Ctrl+F - find in the page (the best of all browsers)
Ctrl+T - new tab
Ctrl+W - close tab
Ctrl+L - goto address
but it consumes a lot of memory, sometimes I have to close it because of that

Firefox is crap. It is very overrated, used mostly by pimply faced male adolescent fanboys, who are badly in need of a girlfriend.
