Why do many Conservatives in the USA seem to viscerally hate Liberals?

Some conservatives seem to be unable to disagree with liberal viewpoints without becoming venomous. I've seen some idiotic questions from both liberals and consevatives, but the absolutism seems to mostly be conservative. Why is that?

I think it goes both ways. You are probably a liberal, so you would think conservatives are more "venomous". The truth is, both sides are "venomous" you just have to find the few people you believe in, and have faith they will do there job. And just don't pay attention to the idiots out there. I wish there was a medium we could all reach but unless make another strong party here in the U.S. , it will not happen.

I don't know, I've noticed it too. Both sides complain, I know I do and I don't fall in either camp. But I have noticed their unusual penchant for ignoring facts and generalizing everything into a us against the liberal world sort of thing. My biggest irritation lies in the fact that it isn't just liberals that are sick of this war, but they won't ever acknowledge that fact. The best explanation seems to be a simple waspishness because they aren't in favor with the American public any longer. For example, the Republican Party is suffering division from within. Yet, when the right wing conservatives rail on about those who dissent over the war, they only point to the liberals over it, as though there are no moderates/conservatives that feel the same way. If you don't agree with the 30%er's then you are a liberal, at least to them. It's hard to understand what they hope to accomplish with this attitude. It doesn't seem to be helping. In fact, it hurts them more everyday with the general public.

Once a perception of corruption in the White House rears its head, and it has not only reared its head but its roaring to beat the band, it's hard to overcome that perception. Add the mismanagement of this war into the mix and they have a real image problem on their hands. They can face it and try to fix it and have a shot at the White House in '08, or they can keep on as they have been, pointing fingers and calling childish and over dramatic names and lose even more ground. They are looking for a savior to lead the party and win the day in '08. But obviously, from the current crop of candidates, they don't have anyone that matches that description. Unfortunately, I don't think the divisiveness will get any better, but continue to get worse.

I think there is hate from both extremes, but the far right has a much longer history of hate. I wonder how many of the hateful RWC bloggers on this site have confederate flags hanging in their closets or have ancestors who were slave owners? A racist is indeed a racist whether a white person who hates all blacks or a black person who hates all whites. The most difficult obstacles for a human being to overcome are the vices and the biased mores of the specific culture in which they were brought up. I believe people who are morally pure and open minded enough to step outside of their specific cultural environment and clearly see the "Big Picture" without bias are the people in the majority who sit just slightly to the left or right of the middle.

Too bad there's not a political party for us...

This is too funny. If you want to see hatred, look at the liberals here in America. Did Republicans make a movie portraying the assassination of Clinton? Were there people actually talking about assassinating Clinton.

If you want to see absolutism, talk to any scientist who does not believe in man made global warming. Liberals like Heidi Cullen tried to have their certification stripped. If you want to see absolutism and intolerance, try talking to a pro abortion person about why they feel they have the right to kill an unborn child, and see what kind of absolutism you get.

thats the fundamental difference between conservative and liberals. if you're liberal, you are open to different ideas. conservatives stick to the ideas that they already have, whatever is traditional. That is why they are called conservative. They have to conserve their brain power, so they cant open their minds to new ways.....

Because conservatives believe there is such a thing as right and wrong. All this BS about shades of gray comes from the liberals who don't want to feel bad when they are not in the right.
