Bright green, yellow belly no other markings in North America is NOT a garter snake (not gardner, not garden, garter) It is a rough or smooth green snake, and completely harmless unless you are a cricket or a lizard or some other small creature. Bring the cat inside and let the snake go about it's business of taking care of lawn pests.

I think the cat was wanting to play with the "toy" she found. Call a snake relocator if you don't want the snake around. I don't know what it is, but I can tell you not to kill it, it'll help keep the rodent population down and prevent hantavirus and plague. But if you're scared of it, like I said, call a snake rescuer/relocator. Some charge money, but others will do it for free. I know that in some areas you can call police dispatch, but that won't work in all areas.
Hope this helps

You don't mention where you live but I'll assume North America. If so, the snake you describe is not poisonous. It is a grass snake and is beneficial. Poisonous snakes in North America (except for the brightly colored coral snake) have a triangular shaped head. If your cat had been bitten by a poisonous snake, you would be grieving rather than writing to us.

It was probably a garden snake or grass snake. They are not poisonous. Your kitty was probably trying to play with it. But if you have any doubts as to the kind of snake it was...keep an eye on your cat and if there is any change in her eating/elminating routine...seek a vets advice or take her in.

It was probably a garter snake.
If you're worried bring in your cat and check her to see if she has bite marks anywhere because garter snakes won't leave bite marks.
If she has a bite mark and is still panting take her to the vet.

If you live in the united states, then the snake you are describing is most likely a rough green tree snake, and it's not venomous. I can guarantee that as there are no venomous snakes (In the u.s.) that are green. Your cat was probably just having a good romp with it's new friend.

Ummm if its a garter/garden snake im like 90% positive its not posionous. And if it was small it probably was a garter/garden snake.

Sounds like a garden snake. Or a grass snake. Check your cat for a snake bite, but I wouldn't worry unless you live in an area that has boomslangs. (Africa)

Probably a grass snake not poisonous, but if your cat is still that way take it to the vets.
