I know you have to audition and all, but HOW?Do you just go and act out something, or do they just interview you, and decide by your looks or personalities? Are they all the same, or are some different?

If you're talking about a big budget, Hollywood movie....your agent will get you an audition. They will give you a scene from the movie to study for a few days and then you go in and act it out for them.
If you're talking about an independent or student film.....you'll usually find a flier or ad in a paper and you go in and they want you to read a few lines from the script.

It depends on the actor and the casting director. If you are a big enough star (say, Tom Cruise), you don't have to "audition", they just decide whether or not to offer you the role.

If you are slightly lesser well known, you have to act out the scene (check out the X-Men or Superman dvds, they include the auditions the actors did).

Also, there are many times when a well known actor is known for a specific role and type (say Jim Carrey or Jaimie Fox), and they ask to read a part for a movie that the producers may not consider them for (this is mostly true for someone doing a genre they are not generally known for). But, if the star is big enough and has the clout, you can just convince producers to let you do it (such is the case with Schwarzenegger in the movie Twins).

First of all, you gotta be smart enough to spell "role". Have you had acting class in high school? Are you planning on taking it in college?. Even then, you'll probably not get a direct shot at a role, without an agent. But you can apply at "casting calls" as an extra. Auditions are not easy to get without an agent to push for you. Open auditions happen more in off-broadway shows than for movies. Looks and personalities all have something to do with casting, but acting ablility in diversified ways has the most to do with what you need to work on to help get hired in show business.

If there is an open audition, go.

You could also sign up with the Screen extras Guild.

They need background folks or someone to say one line, and you can get cast that way

It depends on the roll in the movie. Some positions are just 'walk ons' and no previous experience is required.
