I use someone else’s wireless router to connect to the internet, but the internet no longer loads even though I am getting wireless signal and it says it has connected. I believe the problem is with my IP address as when I trouble shoot my msn I get a problem with the DNS saying ‘Your DNS appears unable to resolve IP addresses’. How can I fix this? thanks

if you are using someone else's router then how strong is the signal? if they live next door then the signal could be very week and even if it shows connected you will not be able to view webpages since the browser will timeout waiting for the page to finally load. Another possibility is that your neighbor has figured it out and employed some security measures. They could have "mac hardened" the hot spot meaning it will not show encrypted but you will but the router will only route to Network cards with specific physical or mac addresses. There is absolutely no way of knowing this unless you ask the person who set it up so...

If your signal is strong and you are using xp then follow the following steps.

right click on the wirless icon in the tray and then choose repair

-try again

-No?

is your wireless card built into a laptop or is it a desktop with integrated (built into the motherboard) NIC then...

-Go to control panel--choose system---hardware----device manager---look for wireless nic------uninstall-------reboot

-should autodectect (sometimes may ask for original driver cd but rarely if already built in
-wait for install then:

try again
No?

Buy your own router and set it up.

Why not ask the dude your living with what's up? Unless of course your stealing it from your neighbor, you neighbor must have realized what was going on and decided to make it more security to prevent outsiders from connecting. That's what we do at my house.

the router could be configured just for the owner,,the router could have security enabled;;or the router may need to be reset
