Is it to ensure a film's success or is it blatant prejudice? There are many South African and African actors that can play in big budget movies, but only a few are selected. Why is this?

When a film is casting, agents submit their clients, or casting agents search for prospective actors. They pick them from the SAG membership - Screen ACtors Guild, the actors union for film. If a South African actor is not known in the US, is not a member of SAG, chances are no one will know about him/her or even think about them.

It is also true that American Black actors can be more versatile, especially with accents - Africans often cannot move easily between different accents, and this can limit their ability to be cast.
