I believe that the USA shouldn't ban guns. We have a right to protect ourselves when someone who carrys a gun trys to kill. It has nothing to do with guns. The guns are not the problem. What is out of control is that people who are mentally ill do not get the help they need so they go out and buy a gun. The bad part is that the checks they do for getting a gun doesn't come up that he or she is mental ill and I say some of them have clean records. My thoughts are instead of banning guns in USA they need to do a record check that involves doctors. I strongly recommend before a person can purchase a gun legally they have to have a written statement says that they are physically and mentally able to have a gun and are free of any mental illnesses. If they have a mental illness then by law they can not have a gun. I don't know if this would help some of the problem with shooting massacares, but it would limit who can and who can not have a gun.

The USA will never ban guns completely because of the Second Amendment. The second amendment was put in place because the UK government's view on guns. It is my personal opinion that we should be allowed to carry guns on college campuses and on school grounds. This sounds extreme, but keep in mind that you have to be at least 21 to get a concealed weapons permit. This mean that no high school student and the majority of college students still wouldn't be able to carry guns. Think of how different the Virgina Tech massacre would have went if the first grad student that was shot could have capped that deranged idiot who thought it was a good idea to kill everyone. When it comes to campus safety, however I don't believe that the addition of guns will make a whole lot of difference until we get out of this liberalist cowardly mindset of asking why before reacting. Don't get me wrong, I'm not critisizing any of Virgina Tech's victims, but at the same time I don't understand how one person could kill 30. I mean if you know you're going to die why die hiding and not fighting. Once again, I was not in the situation, so I'm not critisizing; just trying to understand. Back to the subject, banning guns is unconstitutional and wouldn't stand in the USA. To put it bluntly, no matter how many people who would be for it there would be twice as many people against it. But, then again, our constitution seems to have become just another set of guidelines. Now they tell you where you can and can't smoke (not that I do, it's cancer in a stick); what breeds of dogs you're allowed to own. City and state ordinances seem to violate the constitution everyday, so at this point what would one more violation matter?

Of course the USA SHOULD ban private individuals from having guns but it WON'T.
I agree that banning guns in UK hasn't brought an end to gun crime BUT there haven't been any incidents anywhere near on the scale of Dunblane or Virginia Tech. since, so there has been an effect.
Despite the natural publicity that occurs when an innocent member of the public is shot, most shootings over here are between members of criminal gangs who have placed themselves outside of the law. Still unacceptable and worrying but a far, far better record than that of the USA.

"From my Cold Dead Hands" =D Yeah pretty much it's a bad idea, ban guns and you'd end up like Britain, similar crime rates except now the criminals have the guns and the innocent people don't. The murders with firearms that happen out of emotional impulse happen with knives instead (as you stated).

Guns are so much a part of the American way of life that you are never going to be able to ban them now. It's a constitutional right (as you said) and one that is vigorously upheld but vast numbers of people, the majority of whom though they carry a gun do so for reasons of self-defence only and do not have the intention of using and abusing it. What I do hope is that it's not a culture that is transported across the ocean to us, though knives seem to be the weapon of choice here.

O f course the feds should ban guns, through legislation ONLY tho, as voting on the issue by the public is no longer politically correct. I beleive adolph hitler was right on this issue as crime completly stopped in nazi Germany. All the bad guys/gals (anti national sociolists)were then easily rounded up & reeducated at universities at dachau, buchenwald, ravensbruck "und" mauthausen, ya! Sure, I agree, after all look at the beauty/peace in Germany/Europe from 1933 thru may of 1945!!!

You can't get the genie back in the bottle but surely some controls are needed, limiting people to buying only one gun a month!!?? Yea, that will do it, because the shelf life of a gun is in months! Sadly the next nutter with guns & a grudge is waiting in the wings.

You can not compare the US with the UK or any other nation. We are individuals not subjects. Why should I give up my rights because of the criminal acts of another. Will you give up your driving privileges because some drunk drove his car into a bus full of children? I very much doubt it. Only a fool would give up there rights and freedoms.
