I agree it is very hard to focus on work, but dont do what i ended up doin in year 11 leave it al till the night before! it becomes far more stressfull!

here is what i suggest:

1) work out how long you have to complete the work and how many other coursework assignments you have to complete around the same time

1a) find a place where you can work - i find quiet music helps me but everyone is different - some people prefer total silence, Move everything you know will distract you away from your working space

2) make a start on the ones that are due in first - or if you prefer just take one at a time. make a detailed plan of what you will include in each one with links to where you will get the information from eg text books

3) take one essay at a time and sit down with a drink of water and develop your notes into paragraphs and link them together hey presto essay number 1 complete!!

4) repeat the steps until you have all you work complete

Remember unless you have left all your work till the end there is no need to spen all of your time working - set yourself a goal for each evening eg on monday i will do plans for 2/3 of my essays. on Tuesday I will take one essay and develop the notes. On wednesday i will finish the 1st eassay and if i have time begin the next. Always reward yourself at the end of a session working by doing something you enjoy. And if you are spending more than 2 hours working give yourself a 15 min break for a snack or something this will give your brain a rest and you will be refreshed when you go back to your work, however don't do something like play on ps2 in this break as you are bound to get distracted and spend more than your 15 mins on it!

Good Luck I am sure you will do fine

Break it down!

Firstly, look at the title. What do you have to do? What is it about? Write down what is necessary (eg research, pictures, etc.). write down what you already know about the subject - and work out how much more you need to do (if you know nothing, you will have quite a lot to do; if you know a lot, then you will have less to do!)

Then do the research. You will probably find this more interesting than anything else - you will find lots to sidetrack you! - but adding some of the more interesting facts will make the coursework better!

Remember to list where you found the information (books, websites and so on) - that way, if you want more info, you do not have to start again!

Then start writing up what you have done (I get my son to do this in note form, to make sure he understands what he is doing!) - then start writing/typing it up neatly.

Just remember that, when the work is done, you can play on the PS2 with a clear conscience - and your parents/teachers will not be having a go at you! Oh, and if you are stuck, you can show your teacher what you have already done and can ask for help with a clear conscience - you have done some of the work!

Good luck - and you just have to sit down and start (you cannot get away from that!)

I'm exactly the same - it's really hard and unfortunately there's no way to make it interesting. You just have to do it.

I find 2 things helpful:

1. Go to the library first thing in the morning and stay there all day until you've got it done. There's less distractions in the library and if you've taken the time to walk or catch the bus all the way over there, you'll think "well I'm here now, I may as well do it".

2. Get someone to take distractions away from you. When I revise at my boyfriend's house, I find it really hard because he has the internet, PS2, XBOX360, Sky TV and games on the PC.

When he goes to work, he takes my games, the power cables for the consoles and the TV power cable in his car! He blocks certain websites (like Y.A.!!) so that I can only access my Uni website and Google.

I keep telling myself I won't get distracted and I'll do my work - yet here I am on Y.A., watching Friends in the background, when my exams start in less than 2 weeks!

We've both gotta get the hell out of here and get down the library I think.....

xx Emmie

I suggest setting up a schedule. Perhaps complete a coursework assignment and give yourself 15 minutes to play.
You could study for 1 hour and then give yourself a 15 minute break. Pick the hardest or the topic you like least to start. Once you get the worst out of the way, you will feel like you have made some progress. You must commit to staying on your schedule. Remember the most important thing in your life at present, is getting that education. There are very few professional gamers.

Get 2 or 3 of your school friends together every couple of days and meet somewhere you can work together on the problems. A booth in one of your local all night restaurants is ok even though there's a lot of activity and background noise. Sometimes libraries are the worst place to go for some people.

First, you do your coursework, and as a reward, you get to play on the PS2. Keep that in mind. First, you do your work, THEN, you get the reward.
