Today? No. He's still playing.
Is Vizquel a future HOFer? He's a great defenseman and he hits like the shortstops of old. Unfortunately, the Hall electorate tends to assess a player against his contemporaries, and Vizquel's whiffle bat leaves him sorely wanting against others who have played in his time: ARod, Garciaparra, Ripken, Larkin, Jeter, Tejada have all manned shortstop for significant periods concurrent with Vizquel, and they can all hit the ball much better. That makes for a tough peer group against which to stand out in terms of historical greatness. Defense can get someone into the Hall (Ozzie), but it takes superb, far-and-away best of one's time to do it -- plus a measure of legend, which Ozzie had and Omar does not.
And I'm pretty sure he won't stick around to get 3000 hits; he turns 40 this week and is still over 500 short. That would take him three good seasons (so, approaching in very late 2009 at the earliest). It's possible, and reaching 3000 (or even coming agonizingly close) would change the landscape of his Hall candidacy, but from here it doesn't look very likely.

He is the BEST shortstop EVER. but maybe he will not be a HF.
The reason? because he's Venezuelan, not American. How can you say Oz was better than Omar by far? have you ever see their numbers, one against the other? sure you don't.
We have seen things like this before, a few Golden Globes have been stolen from Omar to players with worse numbers (defensibly) but more famous like A-rod or Jeter.
go to mlb.com and then you may talk about whos the best

Yes he should be. With 11 gold gloves he should be in the hall also the best fielder of his time. Made the same plays as "the Wizard" Ozzie Smith so if Smith is in the hall then Omar should be in the hall.

i think of a guy like him could additionally could desire to hit a milestone offensively. i think of he's a tad to wanting 3,000 hits at this element. So no i don't think of he gets in yet he develop into an extremely sturdy participant in his top and that i do have faith he has an exterior shot yet probable won't make it. precise now Omar is at 2,704 hits and has gained 11 gold gloves. He has purely a .273 lifetime batting conventional and an extremely undesirable .338 OBP. he's 40 two and only isn't a conventional participant this 300 and sixty 5 days so 3,000 hits seems out of attain. yet a sturdy question none the fewer.

Yes. His numbers are better than Ozzie Smith's across the board and Ozzie is in.
The man has 11 gold gloves. He won won last year at the age of "39" playing shortstop. He should be called the "Wizard".
His .984 career fielding percentage is the highest of all-time for a shortstop in major league history.
He is going into the hall no doubt about it.

I don't think so. At this time, the writers have a tendency to vote based on players' offensive numbers, and Omar falls short on hits and home runs.

I remember when he played for the Indians in the 90s and he was a stud. He was quick as lightning, he was a Gold Glover every year, and he hit around 300 every year. I hope he makes the Hall of Fame, but I dont think he will.

I say most definitely. At his age and still able to play awesome defense, hit and steal bases. I was listening to WTAM 1100 in Cleveland and they still are speaking of Omar and realize the mistake they made of getting rid of him.
