Not only bacterial and diseases, but some parasites and nutritional imbalances. A crooked spine can be a sign of vitamin deficiency (scoliosis), a parasitic worm (Camallanus), or fish (piscine) tuberculosis (which can be transmitted to humans and other fish). At any rate, these should be destroyed, because if it's anything other than a vitamin deficiency, it can be spread to the other fish. Once the spine is curved, it will stay that way forever.

There are some diseases and bacteria that can cause this in fish. Go to your local pet store and explain to them what is happening and they can recommend drops for the water to help solve the problem. Small local owned pet stores are usually more informed about things like this rather than the big pet store chains where the emplyees are there just because its a job.

I have also found that this can happen seemingly because of genetic deformity... due to too much inbreeding... how old are they when it is developing... and are you sure this isn't just he first time you have see nthose particluar fish?
