I was in a club i hated freshmen year and vice president sophomore year but quit half way through 10th grade. Would a college through out my application if I left it out like they would if I put down stuff that I never did?

No. It would show integrity for you not to include things in which you did not fully participate. I'm not sure why you would not include something just because you didn't enjoy it, but if you didn't finish out the office, I would say that not including it would be the right thing to do.

The college brochures don't lie, but they leave stuff out. They don't mention the pretentious douchebags on campus or the rampant alcoholism. They don't tell you about the professors that get a kick out of giving someone a B who earned an A just to be a jerk. They don't mention the advisors who are just as happy to see someone finish a degree in five years or four because they don't want to take the time to look at the course catalog.

As far as I'm concerned it is a two way street. leave out as much as you'd like.

Besides, they don't hire private investigators to find out if you quit a club half way through the year.

If the application materials specifically call for information, provide it. Does it say "list all extracurricular activities" or does it say "list any" or "list those you want considered"?

From what you say, you were a member 1 year, vice-president the second, and then you quit. That doesn't look bad from an admissions perspective, it looks good! You rose quickly to a position of leadership, then in your third year you chose to concentrate on other things.

I don't see a problem with leaving stuff like that off.

I don't see any problem in doing that. They're not going to know that you were in a particular organization if you don't mention it.
