Kingston RAM are the best! Never failed me.

If your computer can take ECC (Error Correction Checking) RAM, even better. But they do cost more. These are typically used in servers and are more reliable than your average RAM.

As a previous answer said, check out the reviews first though. And read about those RAMs that cause problems more than those that are recommended.

Also avoid RAM made in China though I know a lot are manufactured there nowadays. And always avoid RAM that have weird brand names like 'strawberry', etc. Those are just hopeless.

Another good way to get the right RAM is to call up PC manufacturers like Dell, HP, Compaq (the more reliable ones) and ask them what brand of RAM they use on their computers, as if you're a intersted buyer and want to know more details before you purchase. They usually test the RAM thoroughly with their PCs before putting together the spec for sale in the market. Although you can't be sure that it will work as well on your motherboard and combined with other hardware on your PC, you can at least be sure that the RAM will work.
