Box cereals. Corn Flakes used to include free baseball card in the cereal. Also I think Raisin Brand also did it. Just walk around the aisle of supermarkets and keep your eyes open looking for free baseball cards. This of course is usually a food promotion during the summer.

Food products (cereal, bread, snack companies) often give away sports trading cards. The card manufacturers and card dealers sometimes use giveaways to promote themselves. Look to see when the next card show is in your area. You also can use the internet to surf the trading card sites. Some folks will give away cards to those who ask, and lots of folks are willing to trade cards with you (as opposed to just selling the cards).
