But Even if they don't, it's still nice to know that people will know you as 'the respectable guy'.

GREAT QUESTION! It can only effect you in a good way even if the person doesn't receive it in a good way. Some people will be negative whether you pay them a complement or put them down. What matters is how we treat people. When we treat all people with respect good always comes out of it. Respecting others makes them feel good about themselves. I love making people feel good about themselves. It sends a positive & welcoming feeling to them & in turn results in a positive response to us. People admire a respectful person. Of course people will treat you with respect too.They will learn to appreciate you and believed that you are a person with good moral values.Therefore, people will like to communicate with you as they feel respected. From there you will have more friends. Just like Karma, what you give is what you get.
