There was a leftover food that I totally forgotten on the kitchen cabinet. What I saw was tiny maggots breeding in the foods. What caused the maggots? Where do they come from? And what does it become after the maggot stage?

I am sorry if this is yucky but I am very curios as I am scared that the maggots turn to some kinda creatures ( I know I am exxagerating) but it does taught me a lesson to clear my foods !

Your previous answers are correct, but to carry the conversation further, you should know that maggots have become useful in some medical treatment. Because they only eat dead flesh, they have been shown to aid in the healing of certain wounds.

So while the subject is yucky, there is a good side also.

Woops. How long was the food left there for?

Maggots are the larva of a fly.

The fly life cycle is composed of four stages: egg, larva (commonly known as a maggot), pupa, adult. The eggs are laid in decaying flesh, animal dung, manure, or pools of stagnant water - whatever has ample food for the larva, generally in a moist area. After 8-20 hours, the egg hatches and the fly enters the maggot stage. It begins to feed on whatever the egg was laid on, usually decomposing flesh. The maggot gorges itself with food until it is ready to enter the pupal stage, at which point the maggot travels away from the food source to a moist spot.

Flies come, lay eggs in the food, the eggs hatch and are maggots, the maggots eat the food then grow up to be flies.

When a fly lays an egg, it hatches into a worm called a maggot. This thing is a voracious eater and will eventually turn into another fly.

Maggots are the larvae of flies. Only takes one to lay the eggs.

You would have had a swarm of flies in your cabinet if you didn't find the larvae first.

Do you not wrap your food? Ever think of refridgeration?

Flies who lay eggs that hatch to become maggots that grow up to be flies. Yes, cleaning cupboards and keeping foods in airtight containers helps keep ants, roaches, and flies away. They are there to eat.
