Following procedures to establish that a person, process or statement, is actually true it can be said to be authenticated. You withdraw money from an AMT your pin number establishes you as the person entitled to make withdrawals. I want to sell an antique it is much easier to prove its providence if you have a 200 year old receipt. Or if you find an old painting in the attic you could get it authenticated by specialist art experts and laboratory test

Authentication means that it is verified by a system. Eg. logging into an administrator account requires that you submit a password. The process of keying in a correct password, is the process of authenticating that you are the correct person with administrator rights/priviledges. BTW, is this an assignment for college?

Authentication, verification and validation are one and the same thing. It is a process where it is determined whether you are allowed to access and use a certain system, service or transaction. One example is a bank ATM machine. You insert your ATM card and then key-in your PIN-code. The information contained in your ATM card together with your pin-code are the basis for the bank's computer system to determine if you are indeed the owner of a certain bank account. This is called authentication. If you passed this authentication process, then you are allowed by the system to continue your transaction (withdrawal, deposit, fund-transfer). If you failed this authentication process (by entering a wrong PIN-code), then the system will not allow you to continue with the transaction.
