I learned 2 things that I was previously clueless and unaware about .

1. I learned that amongst one of the worst tragedies in recent history. . . . that there are actually people walking among us that are so hellbent and heartless , that they'd politicize this unheard of tragedy. .. . . WITHIN HOURS !!

2. And this one surprises me more than anything I can remember . I learned that there are actually people walking amongst us that think it's 'ok' or 'excusable' to not know the age of your daughter(11 or 12 , which one is it Alec? ) and to call an 11 or 12 year old a 'rotten little pig' in a voice message that when I originally heard it , I thought he was ranting at an ADULT MALE !!

I honestly don't comprehend either one . I honestly don't !!

So what did you learn this week ?

I would like to direct your attention to the answer given by 'Daves Here' . Exactly what I was referring to . . . 'cold and heartless ambivalence with no possibility of rational thought '.

1) an unarmed populace is at the mercy of armed evil doers, be they sane or insane. The public is helpless when un armed.

2) That Alec Baldwin is the same self absorbed egotistical *** that I always thought he was.

Lessons learned this week-

1. Never give up on Spring, it will eventually get here.

2. Wear sunblock. My nose got burned yesterday.

3. I am glad that my children never recorded any of the awful things that I may have said to them. I do not agree with Alec's politics or his vicious rant to his 11 year old child. I have how ever lost control of rational thought and called my daughter a few bad names. I am not proud of that. I can not and will not try to defend it. It is indefensible. It is also reality. I wish that I had never said it but I did. It is my belief that other parents here have done the same and are not being honest about losing their tempers when in a conflict with their children.

I learned the same things you did. I re-confirmed my belief that the mainstream media lacks compassion and understanding and will do anything to boost ratings--i.e. air Cho's rants. I again remembered that emotional abuse is often more painful, damaging and long-lasting than physical abuse. The pain from hitting a child will dissipate more quickly than the pain of the words such as Baldwin's. He is unfit to be a parent to Ireland. For those of you who find a reason to excuse Baldwin's behavior, I disagree. I do not care what his ex-wife did or whether his child is spawn of the devil. His words are inexcusable. And why, oh why, did someone turn this into a liberal/conservative topic? Everything in life is not capable of being fit into a tidy little box with a liberal or conservative label.

I have learned:

1) We live in a schizophrenic society. We all do feel really awful about those who lost their lives in Virginia, but feel absolutely nothing about those in Iraq (civilians and soldiers). Also we feel very little about the many starving children living right here in the United States.

2) I have learned that we always need to have an enemy. I was shocked at how fast people began making statements derogatory statements about Koreans after the shooting. How absurd, race has nothing to do with this. I think we should start taking a closer look at mental illness and depression and how to deal with it.

3) I also learned that people do not live by, "let he who is with out gilt, cast the first stone." Everyone I have ever met has lost their temper at some point. People did not seem to take into account the stress he had been under and the ugliness of the feud Alec and his wife have been carrying on. I think that the tape should have never been released and that this matter should have been handled with counseling instead of being the top story on the evening news.

I learned that we have failed to treat folks equally - well deserved memorials and mourning for the 32 dead at VT but with about 3200 dead in Iraq, where were their memorial services? Should have been about two nationally televised memorial services per month for the last 4 years, if we have one service for every 32 souls.

Just because they died in service to their country, why are they less deserving than the 32 students who were killed by a madman?

No I am not politicizing this, neither political side has a good record on this!!

I guess I learned that there WAS a reason why I live in the woods on 25 acres!

Cause people are NUTS!!!

Seriously....I have learned that as soon as people STOP caring about celebrities lifestyles....we will all have a better understanding of our own lives.

And that a portion of the human race strives and lives on blood, guts, gore and others' suffering.

The world has become a VERY scarey place...especially when raising children it in.

I've learned that Alec Baldwin should never be near any firearms, and when he gets to the mental illness box of the purchase form he should check yes.

You may think it as a stretch? But I see both as a lot of people, see anger as their way of solving Problems. It's become the "It" way to get your point across. We allowed some to take The Ten Commandments out of our Schools? And we wonder why things of this nature, go on?

I am sure Baldwin was driven to it. How frustrating to try to communicate with your kids and have them ignore you. I am also quite sure he is very generous with them and they don't even bother to thank. A lot of kids would love to be able to talk to their parents- and the rolls are reversed.
I learned that people are still cruel on occasion- when someone abuses - they have been abused. I am positive that Cho didn't do what he did for no reason what so ever. He didn't just wake up one morning and decide to kill 32 people.
And at the same time all of these happenings are public- we as a civiliztion need to know all the details so we can learn from them.

I have always known that people with mental issues walk among us and that at anytime, they can vent or blow up, taking its toll mentally (Alec Baldwin) or physically (Cho).

The real issue is what can we do to combat this??? Actually, very little can be done except when it doubt, report someone who you believe is not in check with reality.
