The question is not wrong at all, however, how many people really know the answer to your question? I think that is why it falls under the category of philosophy. Perhaps you asked your question in an unclear way? I wouldn't know. It is a difficult and obscure question that not too many people stumble upon often. Personally, I think it is brain development. We, being humans, are a very complex creation. I belive language (something other animals do not have) is a huge source of thought. That is what gets our thinking process to function. Also, memory. Visualization. If children keep seeing an image over and over again, most of the time, they will eventually learn what that image is. Why I am ranting about the brain being the origin of thought is mainly because other animals don't have a thinking process. Then again, as i've been typing and really just thinking aloud to myself, I'm now trying to understand your question. Before the brain or scientific theories and facts come along, why do we think in the first place? Why do we need to think? Again, this is my own assumption..It is our way of mental survival. Physically, we know we need to eat and drink to survive.Mentally, thoughts help us stay stable and aware. Without thoughts, we're vegebtables and unable to function and entropy will take place a lot sooner than it would normally.

its not an illogical queston but maybe people didnt understand it or find it interesting. o.k. i think this- when my soul emanated from God it assumed a body(thereafter). during my first birth I was illusioned by maya by seeing the things around me. when i first identified myself with the body thoughts began to occur in my mind. Krishna says: aatma vichaar se parey hai. it isnt something to be thought of.

its not wrong . i think its hard for one to analyze himself that hard to squeeze an answee , and i think the answer to ur question is " it depends" the origin of our thoughts comes from our logic and our logic depends on who we r , are we astronauts are we firefighters are we strippers or junkies ? but i think it all branches down to good and evil , a logic og good would lead to thoughts that spring from the will to do good things and vice versa
