I would have to rule out lara, though one of the greats of the game, specially for the WI his career is littered with very high scores, but hasn't really won a lot of series for the WI. Ponting or Sachin, hard choice, I think it depends on the country you come from, being an aussie I would lean toward Ponting, but as I love to watch both bat, as an aussie I can't wait for Sachin to retire and give us a go, specially in india. Ponting

If u consider current form its Ponting. The only way he seems like getn out is by runnin him out....
The most technically sound batsman is Sachin Tendulkar. He has been a great servant for Indian cricket frm a long time.
For me the greatest is Brian Lara. He such a sensation to watch. He is very unpredictable. His unorthodox glances, sweeps, and lofted shots make any bowler think twice before bowlin to Lara.
People say you get to score a big innings only once in ur life time. But after seeing his record get broken by Hayden and again coming back and breakin it just speaks of the ability of Lara.

They've all had their separate times of fame.
I would say Sachin is the best. He holds so many records, and they don't look likely to be beaten any time soon.
Lara is also in a league of his own. How could anyone not be amazed at his score of over 400 in tests?
Ponting is such a strong player and so reliable. The same cannot be said about Sachin and Lara currently.
It's hard to compare them, but Sachin will always be the best in my opinion. He has been playing since he was 16 and has built up so much to be proud of.

Lara is one of the greatest but flawed geniousses due to most flamboyant and fluent starts to many slow-start-slamming innings. But he will be remembered for the many matches where his big innings have saved the day and won many a match for Windies.
Sachin is a great genious with the Indian batting on his shoulder for the better part of the last 18 years. This has taken a toll on his performance. He is among the youngest to make test debut and a test century laterand youngest and longest playing with most test and one day appearences among these three players.
Ponting of these three has been lucky to have a balanced side which has not affected his batting like Lara & 10dulkars.
He is the fittest of these three greats and should have atleast 2 years of cricket left in him.

If you compare the past record of these cricketers, I consider Sachin Tendulkar as the best batsman in ODI and Brian Lara as the best i Test Cricket. However, if we have to choose the best batsman currently from the three, I consider Ponting as the best as he is most consistently at present as compared to Lara and Tendulkar.

To compare these three with each other would be unfair. All of them are great batsmen and have done a lot in international cricket. Let's not compare greats and give them equal respect.
