Australia is the strongest team, and have been for nearly 10 years. Why is this? Other teams have great players too, but why can't they achieve such domination of the game?

I'm talking about cricket, especially the World Cup.

firstly, because it is our national sport. everyone knows the game and so many play it, that the depth, going all the way down through state and even district cricket is amazing. warney recently declared that pura cup cricket is the highest standard of and most challenging cricket he ever played.
right now australia is the runaway favourite for the world cup, despite a perceived weakness in the bowling department. perfect evidence

australian cricket is more disciplined. not to say that the players themselves are mentally stronger, but they know that there are consequences, and high standards of expectation to live up to. you have to earn a spot in the team, and you dont get kicked out unjustifiably.
they showed faith in symonds where they could easily have dropped him, and he answered with a 150+ not out, as compared to english cricket, where chris read came into the team and showed that he was one of the best, if not the best keeper in the world, and was dropped for some bald old man in the end of his career.

mostly, though, we are so dominant because of our cold clinicism and systematic and ruthless approach. we are just the most consistent team, who sense and attack weakness, and just do all the right things at the right time. players rarely fail in their roles, and when they do it is usually safe to bet that there is someone else who can come on/in and steady the ship. this is also reflected in the insane standard of fielding that we have become accustomed to.
while certain teams have very good players, the west indies and england come to mind, they lack the strength and cool-headedness if you like, to dominate teams and rise to the occasion.

it more or less comes down to the discipline and expectation that is endemic to the whole australian cricket nation

If you compare the professionalism of the Aussie cricketers and look at Englands nat sport (football0 you can see that there is a much higher level of dedication no matter what level they are playing. That dedication is carried into the international arena so when they go onto the field of play they have the same if not more talent the the opposition but the carry the extra ingredient belief. Also if you look at how the other teams in the WC have approached games vs Aus you can see an element of fear which the Aussies will exploit .
Bad as England have been in this WC I thought that they were the only team to go into there match with them believing in themselves, unfortunately England were beaten because they are just not good enough rather than being overawed .

Australians are true professionals. Their commitment, dedication, enthusiasm and their hunger for victories have made them almost unconquerable. Their serious approach towards the game of cricket even in a match against a minnows is the key to their success and their celebration even on the fall of a wicket of a tailender tells the story.

Australians have a totally different approach, they've very confident, positive, aggressive, and they all work together. On top of that, Australia's captain Ricky Ponting is pretty good as well. He's able to inspire people and lead the team confidently. I think Aussies have a pretty good chance...

It's their national game, and has a prominence in society that is only matched by the sub continent. it's played in schools and they've an excellent domestic game and academy system. In England the top sporting kids are lured to more lucrative sports such as football and the governments here keep selling off the schools sports fields.

The players of Australian Team are mentally and physically tough and they play will 100% committment and determination. Each player in Australian team knows that their place in the team can be retained only if they perform well unlike India.

Their Commitment and application on the field. Each player give their 100% on the field. The players don't bother about their marketing commitments, Cricket board politics etc. They just concentrate on the game and give 100 %.
