Depends what you mean by great. He clearly had certain impressive skills and a magnetic personality. On the other hand, he was apparently a rather poorer organiser than he's given credit for: the third Reich was actually quite a bit more of a mess than people realise.

I'd add that, apart from the Autobahnen, his legacy was not a good one: millions of people killed, Germany destroyed, much of the rest of Europe in ruins and divided. Even by his own, rather questionable standards, this wasn't a success.

I think that he might have been intelligent by coming into power and changing a whole nation into what he wanted. BUT his evil ways and actions kind of X that out.
