I'd like:The Dalli lama, because everything I have either read or heard him say has been utterly astounding,
Edddie Izzard cause he'd make everyone laugh
Nina Simone to sing for us
Robert Mugabe so that I could assasinate hi
Gareth gates because he seems like a nice guy! and I like nice people
Van Gogh, so I could swirl within his maddness with him
Quentin Crisp, I admire his bravery
Martin Luther King because it would mean he had a longer life if he were still able to picnic
George Orwell because I like tortured souls and love his vision
Steven Hawkins because I'd like to meet someone so clever (and I bet he doesn't get out much socially, especially a picnic)
My gay best friends Mark and Quin because i love them and they make me laugh
My family because I Love them and I couldn't be really happy with something as wonderful as this picnic if they weren't there to enjoy and share it with me My Dad, he's dead but I'd like the oppurtunity to let him go in peace by telling him

Hi Mia,
Great question with addendum.
I too would have all my family & freinds around me, including my Dad, who is no sadly no longer with us.
We had many a "picnic" on hot soft sands in remote parts of the Mid-East, unloading cold boxes from my boat, full of wine, beers, fillet steaks for the barbie, melons, squid, oysters, and although we may have not of had the table cloth thing, as there was no need, the sun umbrellas poked in the sand, the music playing from the boat, the bouts of water skiing, finished of by being joined by freinds from another boat, then making our wobbly way back, was fine.
As for desired guests, I guess that Jesus, an interesting bloke to talk to if I could speak ancient Aramaic, Billy Connely, for the laughs, Gordon Brown, as I have a few questions, His majesty the Sultan of Oman, as he is a really nice chap, having met him, any really good Irish band to supply the music, and so that I can join in, Bill Gates, as I have a bone or two to pick with him, and perhaps George Doublyou Bush, so that I can relate the farce thet his Dad created as VP when visiting here.

Oh, and yourself, of course !

Bob

I'd invite Keira Knightley because I think she's absolutely gorgeous but in the last picture I saw of her she looked like she could do with a little feeding up.
We could tuck into all the food, then just laze around all afternoon chatting about her films. As the evening sun went down we would go skinny dipping in the sea, then cuddle up under a banket and watch the sun slowly disappear over the horizon before gently making love by the light of the big campfire I had made. Perfick !!!!

I have always shared my picnics with the same ones who always come........ every fly, wasp and bumblebee on the planet. The picnic spread itself is the open invitation. They never needed a card LOL
But the most extraordinary thing is that I can't remember a time when, at such a picnic, I was ever stung by a bee, wasp, or mosquito, and I never had a passing bird poop on any of the food. As a lover of the Natural Kingdom, I always believed in expressing my full appreciation of everything that contributed to those wonderful summer picnic scenarios. I set aside a little way from MY spread, a small offering such as a big watermelon skin with some fruit and juice still in it; couple of tomato halves and a slice or two of buttered bread for the small, but intricate and beautiful fellow creatures who are, for all their peskiness at times, vital components of this planet's remarkable ecology. LOL I always liked to think that their not stinging me was their way of saying thankyou.
Oh I usually had one or two close human friends along too, and we always agreed that there was nothing more thoroughly recreational than a picnic in some blissful place, on a day when Mother Nature was wearing her most beautiful summer dress, and being on her best behaviour.

Morrissey, Steven Fry, Margaret Thatcher, Billy Brag and Elsie Tanner. Picnic sounds nice by the way. Yum! (Morrissey wouldn't eat the ham or lobster though)
