Monitor keeps blinking in & out I've run anti-virus& anti-spyware with no threats discovered. When I disconnect my daughters pc from the network it's resolved. She has norton security 2007 running with nothing detected. This problem occurs on multiple os across our network. 98se, xp @ even vista but to a much lesser degree. At the worst screen goes blank as if the pc is not even turned on. Please help!

Sounds like a worm.

But, I can't help remotely without being able to see your network physically.

I'd suggest that you call in a Professional there.

Cheers!

This could be complex to diagnose. It could even be an electric issue in your house.

I would try connecting another PC the way your daughter's is to check if you get the same problem.

If you do, call an electrician.

Otherwise you should try changing your network connections to see how it behaves. It could be a router related issue, for example.

Sounds like a custom malicious code program if the computer affected works fine disconnected from the network.

Normally I would say this is a hardware or display problem, but if it goes away off net?

This is more a hardware problem than a virus-related one.
First, make sure you have the proper and updated drivers for your VGA card. If you do then have the rest of the system checked. This may be happening due to a problem in the RAM or other hardware.

Run a TotalScan from Panda, you can find the tool at http://www.infectedornot.com

The site is owned by Panda Sofwtare and it's part of their new "Infected or Not?" campaign. They let people try their newest detection tools (Panda NanoScan and Panda TotalScan) for free and they get to collect stats. Everybody wins.

Download Norton, AVG , Avast which are free antivirus software. They do protect your computer and you can keep updating them once in three days or so. Ad-aware, Ewido are free spyware removers. C'mon Dawg, YOU GOT THE ANSWER ALREADY !!

It's your daughter's pc !!! Something about it's electronics is causing your monitors to malfunction. All else being equal and running smooth, you plug in daughter's pc and OTHER pcs malfunction.

YOu did a good job of diagnosis.
