I keep getting a pop up when I log on to my computer that says "Java updates are ready for your computer" But I think I remember seeing the name "Java" on some things that my "Adaware" has gotten rid of as "Bad" stuff. What should I do?

No need to worry, this is perfectly normal.
Java is programming language that some internet sites use to do interactive stuff with. Also you may have applications on your pc that also use Java. Every now and then Sun Microsystems release little updates to add new functionality.

If you don't update then you may find little errors appearing on sites that have taken advantage of this new functionality.

If you don't update then it'll probably keep pestering you, I tend to go ok just to shut it up, but rest assured it's perfectly harmless.

I enclose the wikipedia entry that's quite informative, but i warn you, it *is* very boring ;)

Yes, by all means update your Java. It is necessary for the continuing security and safety of your computer as many Java updates will "patch" security holes that discovered in the program.

The probable reason that your AdAware is finding "stuff" infecting your Java is the fact that you are using an old un-patched and un-updated version of Java.

After updating, for maximum security, experts recommend that any old versions of Java be removed using Add / Remove Programs. I believe the latest version is 1.6.0.1.0.

Java refers to a number of computer software products and specifications from Sun Microsystems (the Java™ technology) that together provide a system for developing and deploying cross-platform applications. Java is used in a wide variety of computing platforms spanning from embedded devices and cell phones on the low end to enterprise servers and super computers on the high end.
