Formatting your PC for a virus is like cutting off your hand for a broken fingernail. Get an anti-virus software program (Norton's or McAfee are the best) and get rid of the virus.
Formatting your computer will wipe it clean; you will lose everything on it.

quick fix is to reformat, best fix is to run antivirus, antispy and keep hem up to date and running......if you have viruses, trojans, malware, or spyware running on your pc and you do not have an antivirus solution....there are several programs out there both online and off, free and paid that will get you maximum protection and can fix the computer without losing any data. http://www.download.com has a slew of programs along with reviews and descriptions both from the company and users. AVG has a free version of their antivirus that works as well as the paid version, there are several registry cleaners and fixers and some other tools you can download and try for yourself to see what works with your configuration. I would not suggest going with the "big boys" like Norton or Mcafee security suites as while they are more popular, they are also system hogs, and the fact is that if your computer is already infected both of these programs tend to miss whats already there because it was installed after the fact....Trust me I have tried it, Norton missed 3 files that were purposely left on my pc to see what it would and would not catch, Mcaffee missed 2 of the 3 and AVG caught all 3 during installation.....
There are others out there so just go to download.com and check it out for yourself.

Carmen, there must be an epidemic going around whereby everyone thinks all their computer problems are solved by reformatting and reinstall the OS on the computer. Fact is, if we take the time to maintain our computers in proper order, most of the problems are overcome. So I don't recommend reformat as the first option.
What I do need to know is, What is the problem? Let's solve the problem and usually it's much less painful than doing a reformat where you lose all your settings and files. Let me know and I'll try to help.
