If you are in the UK you can legally call yourself anything you want so long as it is not with the intention of committing fraud. Often banks will insist on legal documentation though.

I am in the UK and have changed to my maiden name after divorce. You can call yourself anything you like but if you want to be legally recognised and be able to use your name on bank accounts etc you need a Change of name by Deed Poll you can get these on line mine cost me £50 4 years ago.
I had to get a work mate to witness it and it was stamped as a legal document I had to send a copy to people such as my bank, the water board that deals with your area, Electricity etc yes if you pay a bill of some description they will want to view the original not a copy.
It didnt take long to do and it gave me back my identity it opens a new chapter after what was a very stressful time.

Hi As you will not be married you can be Ms whatever maiden name you have. I changed my name by deed poll as I was none to happy with my maiden name. You do have to let the banks know about a name change, but that's for your security. Good luck to you.

In the US, the easiest way is to do it as part of the divorce.
Officially, if it's not meant to defraud or avoid payment of debit, then you can change your name just by doing so. You need to start with Social Security, and then do your driver's license and bank accounts. I suspect it's going to be tougher than it should be.

Tell your lawyer what you want your name to be. He will make it legal for you. After the divorce you have to notify people of the name change.

Sorry but you really ought to do it the correct way which would be through a solicitor, otherwise you will find it hard to open bank accounts or get passports etc. This will cost but not as much as you may think, besides its very liberating to be your own person again!

Just change it back the same way you changed it when you got married! Write to your bank, employer etc and explain you want to change your name. You might have to supply copies of your divorce papers to prove it but as it is the same name on your birth certificate there shouldn't be any problems

You have to take a legal proceeding if you are to change your name. The registration authorities have to be aware of your move because you maybe suspected that you are changing the name for fraud purposes annd you may end up being sentenced fot that.

You can revert back to your maiden name as long as you inform all banks, tax man, etc. but when you remarry, you will find you will have to produce your decree nisi (so keep this paperwork safe), and they will tell you that you should sign your ex-married name - although I didn't.
