We are a young (relatively) country. We are certainly sometimes foolish. We do not hold the patent on this one, however. (smile) BUT: when it comes to our Constitution, YOU need to read more closely! The Bill Of Rights (the first ten amendments to the Constituion of the United States) were added immediately after the body of the document was complete by men SMART enough to know that there may come a time when the government becomes oppresive to the people it governs. The people would need a legal means to have arms, in case the need to remove the government ever becomes real. These men wrote a doucument that has been held up a THE example of what all men, everywhere, hope for in their own government. It has been copied, used as a blueprint, and generally conceeded to be the finest of it's kind in the world.. If, however, you choose to be oppressed, with no means of redress, be my guest. The CHOICE is yours. See how that works? Go in peace. (May I assume YOU will not be among the tens of thousands of people from all over the world wishing to become a citizen of my country?) Best of luck to you.-OH.- We need you to define "sporting"; because here we differ on what that means. Of course "sporting guns could not kill a human being, right? And here, each adult has a vote. And the freedom to make his/her own choices, so you do see our problem? Riiight. Here WE ARE the government. Who is niave?

Hmmm, Europe has had two world wars that resulted in 80 million people being killed in the last century.
Like Africa, Europe still has genocides.
But America is in the dark ages ???
I do believe you might want to rethink that comment.
Plus the fact that America, the size of Europe, instead of being 50 different countries, joined together to form a " more perfect union " and become a single nation.
We did that 231 years ago, Europe is just now in the beginning stages of doing that themselves.
I'd say that was pretty progressive of us Americans to do somthing 231 years before you " so called enlightened Europeans " even started to get around to it.
Maybe if you had done so 100 years ago, those 80 million Europeans you slaughtered last century, might still be alive.
It's also pretty progressive that every government in Europe is based on the ideas started in America.
Ideas like freedom, human rights, equal rights for all.

I dont think guns have anthing to do with it. We need to focus on the people who are angry enough to blow 32 people away. Mental Illness is the problem, even if sporting guns were legal anyone with a clean record could pay for it, wait 3 days, pick it up, take to a public place and boom! Guns will never go away, but we can do something about these mentally unstable people. But that's a different question.
The right to bear arms is basically the right to defend oneself. Not freedom to wail a gun around. What happens when you can't buy a gun, but you can't afford a fancy security system. You're sleeping in your house with your family. You hear someone break in, you grab a knife out of your drawer. You walk downstairs see the man with an illegal gun. It's over there, gun beats knife. I would like the option to defend myself, so should you.

NO. It is part of our Rights drawn into the Constitution. Any idiot can get a Gun from someone on the *streets* If you do not like the US stay out of it, OR if you live here, move to another Country. I thought that the Dark Ages was a lot longer then 216 years ago. All it will accomplish if they try to take away the Guns from people who are responsible is it will put them at the mercy of the criminals. If you live in the US, the next time you need help in a life and death situation, call the SPCA INSTEAD of the Police.

Funny how both Britain and Australia, both with far stricter gun control laws than the USA have a higher violent crime rate.
Funny how Switzerland where every adult male has an assault rifle has one of the lowest violent crime rates in the world..
It is not the guns kid, it is the lack of guns that makes for violence. VT is another sad example. Guns totally banned so that is where the violence took place.

The Second Amendment isn't out of the "Dark Ages." (Have you ever read a history book?) It's representative of an Enlightement principle called "liberty." I know Europe is in its postmodern nihilistic phase where there is no right or wrong and bureaucracy is king, but I'm quite content living in a country and under a system that still somewhat respect my right to defend myself against intrusions from my neighbor or my government. I like my freedoms and I like my right to protect my freedoms - by force if necessary. And as a woman living alone, I'm especially comforted by a gun.
And you misspelled naive and nonsense. I guess you should add those two words to the long list of things you know nothing about.

The U. S. tried banning drinking alcohol in the 1920s. That was a bad idea as people were making and selling their own alcohol and gangs were killing each other and lots of innocent people as well. Sporting guns are dangerous as well, put in the hands of somebody that intends to do bodily harm.

"When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns!"
Your question tells me: 1. you don't know when the *real* Dark Ages took place; 2. you are a product of the Government schools, 3. you have been brain-washed and dumbed down by these same NEA-run schools, 4. you are ignorant about how the Constitution is changed, 5. you'd be better off if you went and lived in Great Britain, Canada, or Mexico!

Read more into it the Right to Bear Arms.
Texas has the lowest population of homicides.
Gee I wonder why if we could all just walk around with guns. Someone wouldn't of gotten away of shooting and killing 33 kids.

Liberalism is dark age nonsense and shows what a young, foolish and naive country the U.S is?
Any modern democratic and progressive country should ban all liberals.
See, I corrected your mistakes.
