To say categorically, "There is no God, is to make an absolute statement. For the statement to be true, you must know for certain that there is no God in the universe. Since possession of ALL knowledge isnt there you cannot truthfully make this statement. If you insist upon disbelief in God, what you need to say is "Having the Limited Knowledge I have at the present, I believe there is no God. "Owing to a lack of knowledge on your part, you dont know if God exists. So, you really cannot be an atheist. The only true qualifier for the title is the One who has "Absolute knowledge," and why would God want to deny His Own Existence. The Bible tells us that ignorance is "willfull" (Psalm 10:4). <><

That's a valid logical syllogism. Funny that so many seem to just deny the logical equation.
Rational thought differs from scientism. The idea that science can support evidence for anything outside the material is silly.
So things like love, justice, friendship, beauty, personality, are not supported by science but do they exist?Of course. Or should we deny they exist based on the science?

atheism can be defined as the absence of believe in god(s), but also the the belief in the nonexistance of god(s). Your definition is the second one.
The second defintion is the kind of person that says "Having the Limited Knowledge I have at the present, I believe there is no God." people usually dont add the "having limited knowledge etce", because the uncertainty is completly contained in the word "belief".
That is why christians say i believe in god , and why atheist ( with second definitions ) say i dont believe in god.
Some people ( critians and atheist ) equals the verb belief with the verb know. that makes them atheist of first definition, and ??? for christians
So when someone tells you there is no god, it is an atheist of the first form, but this is not an atheist in your definition, it is someone who knows for sure that there is no god, thus your question should not be
"What proof supports atheism?" but "what proof supports the nonexistance of god?"
The answer is simple : there is no proof just as there is no proof that god exists.
statements like this are called axiomas , they dont require a proof, you can choose which one you prefer and build a framework of knowledge on it, as long as you are happy with the consequences and this frame work, everything is ok.
But if you are not, then you have to reconsider your axiomas.
BTW Funny that some seem to just deny that things like love, justice, friendship, beauty, personality, are not supported by science, but that is a different story.... gluck

The idea that one needs absolute knowledge to disprove God is absurd. Anything that operates or exists outside of the laws of the universe simply does not exist. Miracles are impossible as they violate the laws of science.
I don't have to visit the North Pole to know Santa does exist, nor do I have to go to the moon to know it is not made out of green cheese. In the same token I do not have to know everything to conclude God does not exist.
Your statement is a common argument made by theologians wanne-be philosophers. Too bad they aren't scientists.

You can't prove a negative - can you prove Russell's teapot doesn't exist? However, the burden of proof is on the one making the (positive, thank you) assertion.
Nobody can prove any gods, much less a specific god, exist; many people will tell you their god exists but no others, but will never be able to prove it, even if they think so. Some will threaten you with eternal pain or promise eternal joy to get you to believe in their god; these are all stories, created for people who were scared long before we understood the universe. Now we have no more reason for these superstitions.

Wow, you're way off. It's the utter lack of evidence - or 'proof', as you call it - that is the foundation for a lack of belief in any of the thousands of gods that mankind has created.

You misunderstand both logic and science...
IN SCIENCE, "proof" is nothing, EVIDENCE IS EVERYTHING.
Just as Odin, Bigfoot, gnomes, Ra and Nessie... God can't be proven or disproven... But you don't believe in *these*, do you?
ALSO; it's up to the claimant to provide evidence; hence *you*.
There is *NO* Evidence for any of humanity's Gods. None. Zip.
I'll gladly discuss more with you... just email me. ... :-)

It's called "reality".---We see that mankind has created & worshiped over 8,000 Gods---all separate Gods are false & a product of mans imagination.
