Be more specific. Your question reads more like a mindless rant. By the way, it's spelled "excess".

Police do things for a reason, you may have just been eating icecream at the local icecream shop, but another guy just robbed a gas station down the street from you using a gun. He was described as wearing a red shirt and jeans, wait a minute, you are wearing a red shirt and blue jeans too. Guess What? You fit the description of the suspect, so until the cops prove it isnt you, do what you are told.

If people would just listen, there would never be what the public considers an "excess'........... of anything.

If you are told to show your hands or put your hands up, you are being told for a reason. If you dont listen, you are going to be told again, if you still dont listen you are going to get hit with either a night stick, hand,or pepper spray until you comply. That is what police are trained to do. You have to comply to there demands, even if you think it is illegal. If you are told to do something just do it. If you feel it was illegal deal with it at another time, dont try to deal with it at that moment because you are not going to win, and may wind up injured or shot. Dont make our jobs harder than it already is.

I know how it feels to be "stopped for no reason" . But there was a reason. I was stopped because someone with the same color jeep as me that just robbed a gas station. I had 4 State troopers pointing their guns at me and they had me spread eagle against my car. I did what they said until they were satisfied they had the wrong guy. Just listen, bottom line.

You have done a great job by raising this question, and as a citizen I share your concern for the poor and hapless people.

Look at the kind of bias our society has for unprivileged, which is apparant from the kind of responses you have got to your question already. What can happen to poor with this kind of biased society is anybody's guess.

I feel there should be an organization, which takes up matters pertaining to poor and under privileged as a routine. It should be funded by NGOs, and should advertise their presence to the poor people in the localities, by telling them that any attrocity committed on them for their being poor, will be taken notice by them.

It is really a shame that we are making scape goats of the people who already are in a very pathetic state.

It is horrible how they figure out who can't read by driving by someone who can't read. Or being called to a crime. Or an emergency medical situation.

Exactly where do the cops get off --letting people not learn how to read? We shouldn't tolerate that.

Even the innocent people know that...

Sometimes they are doing their jobs, and they had reason to suspect someone, even if they later turn out to be innocent. But if they are abusing people, using unnecessary physical force, shooting unarmed people, etc., they need to be punished and prosecuted. Their punishment depends on the extent of their crimes. We need to enable them to do their jobs, but we also need to make sure that they are severely punished if they abuse their authority.

You don't have to be literate to understand put you hands on the wall our behind you back. When they don't follow very simple orders they put the officers safety at risk.
