Not home made. I usually get Prego but just want to see if I'm missing something good. Oh, and what type. Like, Prego w/mushroom or plain, etc. Thanks.

I mix 3 different kinds or Ragu - The only one I know for sure is 6-cheese, then I get two others, sometimes it's just whatever they have. I try to get ones with green peppers, onion, garlic, tomatoes and olive oil. I add fresh mushrooms, ground beef, and my family just loves it.

Newman's Own is such a good bottled sauce, relatively cheap (esp if on sale...but any other time...you can get a bottle for a little over two bucks....and all profits go to charity). I was quite surprised by how much flavor there is to the sauce. I like the marinara, but the sockarooni is very good too. Anything with garlic, or whatever your preference, should be tasty. They have organic, too. I often experiment with many types of bottled sauces from expensive to cheap, but Newman's is the only one that sticks in my mind for some reason.

Very reasonably priced, surprisingly tasty, and sometimes better than what I make on my own---since I often prefer thin sauce to chunky (I usually make homemade sauce from good quality canned whole tomatoes, a touch of olive oil, diced onions and garlic, maybe a bit of wine, italian herbs, esp oregano, pepper and salt, and maybe a touch of sugar. If you mash the tomatoes, bring to a boil, season, and simmer for twenty minutes or so (covered or uncovered) you have a very tasty, economical sauce. I didn't mean to tell you a homemade recipe, it is just that many people think it takes such a long time. If you buy the Italian diced tomatoes it only takes about ten minutes or so of simmering before you have a tasty, chunky sauce, very easy to make (about the time it takes for a pre-made sauce to come to a boil and warm up).

However, if you like the convenience and texture of a pre-made sauce, I would recommend Newman's Own. You will not regret spending a few bucks on the sockarooni, I promise. For maybe a dollar more than a bottle of Prego, you can have a MUCH better tasting sauce than Prego, and you can support a business that helps children with life threatening illnesses (such as cancer) to attend a summer camp that will lift their spirits, among other things. It is one of the best deals that I have discovered in my two decades of consumerism. In fact, right now, I can't think of a better deal.

I like the Classico line. Specifically the one with mushrooms. And for a white sauce I love their Roasted Garlic Alfredo. I just saute some mushrooms and garlic and dump in the jar. Easy quick meal!

For spaghetti I always buy Prego. I never stick to one type. Since I always make garlic bread with my spaghetti I will buy two jars of two different types and mix them. I like alot of sauce and I always have to dip my garlic bread in the sauce. If you're talking lasagna I always use Hunt's Traditional. Then I chop up alot of garlic and onion and season it with herbs like fresh oregano, marjoram, basil and hot pepper flakes.

basically make your guy or woman sauce..a rather basic blend of tomatoes, clean basil possibly some salt and pepper, some olive oil and a few garlic cloves..in case you elect some greater flavor use 1st baron beaverbrook grease or prosciutto grease in case you have some fairly of olive oil..sautee the garlic until eventually ultimately fragrant upload the tomatoes and basil cook dinner for 30-40 minutes than placed on the casserole.. its greater low-fee than that nasty jar sauce and is a lot fit as properly.

I usually try different varities depending on what's in the sauce. Right now I have Mezzetta's "Napa Valley Bistro" Puttanesca sauce.

Other brands I like are Bove's, Patsy's and Classico.
