If you have ever seen the big pictures of hurricanes on weather maps on tv, you will not that there is a clear spot in the center of the giant spiral.
This is know as the "eye".
It has relatively calm weather. Just around it and coming soon is the violent storm.
So eye of the storm has a similar connotation.

In actuality "The eye of the storm" is the center part of a hurricane or tropical storm that is typically very calm. When the eye of the storm passes, you then enter into the most intense part of the hurricane with the highest wind speeds.
Metaphorically the term is used to mean that you are experiencing a calmness between two bad events, and that the worst is yet to come.

The eye of the storm is the center of a hurricane, general one to two miles in diameter. After the "front" edge of a hurricane hits you, there is a momentary lull in the storm, the sun sometimes comes out, the rain and wind stops, and it is deathly silent. (Nothing will chirp of peep during this time, almost like they know more is coming.) If you watch outside while the eye passes over, you can even see the storm coming up on you, only this time the winds are going the opposite direction.
Often time, when someone refers to the eye of the storm, they are not referencing a real storm, but a momentary lull in a problem before more trouble picks up. Kind of like a breather.

A hurricane is a whirling wind that may be 25 to a hundred miles in diameter. The winds on the edges are blowing over 80 miles an hour for it to be considered a hurricane. The center of the circle is called the eye of the storm and the weather is still and calm.

Generally, depending on the relation to the question asked, it means to be center, calm spot of all the turmoil. But, sometimes, it could mean being the center of all the controversy as well. I believe it depends on what context the statement is used. 1) "Jason was in the eye of the storm while his family scoffed at his latest choice of friends." - in the middle of all the discussion. 2) "With the failure for the software implementation this past weekend, I am glad we are in the eye of the storm since our unit deals with reporting." - in the middle of the calm while all heck breaks out around them! LOL
I hope this helped.

I have green eyes as well. To make mine stand out I use a contrasting colour - Violet, Raisin, Plum. Gold also works very well. I use dark colours lined around the eyes, with light accents at the corners and just under the browbone. The purple tones make my eyes look SO green when I wear them. Browns and whatnot make my eyes a little darker, so I wear those when I am feeling introverted. Remember, accentuating and making something stand out is best done by comparison - compare the green against the purple tones and the green seems MORE.

I'm guessing the person was speaking metaphorically. Essentially, it means you've come through something and are still standing, but the worst is yet to come. Another adage that might help you understand a little better is the one "It's always darkest before the dawn".
