I haven't heard of any such thing being proposed, but hypothetically: If the Pac-10 were to add two more members so they could have a championship game, what schools would you expect to see added?

I would go with Brigham Young for one entry. The other is a bit more difficult -- the easy thing to say would be Boise State, but it remains to be seen if they can sustain their success. Also, Utah would provide a natural conference rival for BYU.

So far some interesting names, some that I hadn't thought of right off. As I mentioned, Boise State hasn't necessarily shown staying power -- a few years ago Marshall seemed a good choice for a 12th team in the Big 10, but now they are about even with several other MAC schools.

Biggest problem for Hawaii is the cost of travel, although this would probably be less of a problem for Pac-10 schools than it is for WAC schools.

Two things to remember: (1) Football isn't the only sport on which a decision would be based. (2) Sometimes academics are a factor -- I don't know how any of these schools stand in that regard.

The last expansion of the Pac-10 was the addition of Arizona and Arizona State from the WAC in the late 70's. If the Pac-10 were looking to expand to 12 schools, I would expect again that the new members would be somehow coupled together.

But the schools would have to be comparable to the existing Pac-10 schools, and have similar athletic programs. I would not expect an invitation to some school that would have to build new facilities, etc. to come towards the Pac-10 levels. That likely would severely limit the choices.

I do not see any logical couplets of schools in California - Fresno State makes some sense in football and basketball, but who else? San Jose State is nowhere near compatible in the major sports, and San Diego State does not have a natural rivalry with Fresno.

UNLV and Nevada-Reno make some sense in basketball, but neither is likely to excite anyone in football. And their football facilities are nowhere near the level of most Pac-10 stadiums.

Utah and BYU are the most likely pair. Their football stadiums are Pac-10 quality. Their football programs are fairly consistent. Their basketball programs are solid and have adequate facilities. And their academics are likely at a similar level to the Pac-10 schools. As a result, they would probably be the next two members of the Pac-10.

i don't know how you couldn't go with boise state as one team, especially after this past season. as for the other, it would be a toss-up Utah and BYU would both be good choices, even Fresno State being in California, but I'll go with one that hasn't been said yet and say Hawaii. They had a very good team this past season, and usually stay competive from year to year. Granted they wouldn't be quite up to speed with some Pac-10 teams (eg. USC, Oregon) but they were certainly better than Arizona, Arizona State, Washington State, and after a few years of being in a higher level conference, their recruiting would increase. Also their unique style of offense with lots of passing could provide better TV ratings, as their offense is pretty unique to the NCAA. I would definetly enjoy watching them more

I agree with you on BYU. They consistently field nationally competitive teams and have a very high powered offense; an attribute that fits nicely with the rest of the Pac-10.

My other choice would be University of Nevada. They improve every year and, within the decade, could rise to national prominence with the USC's and Cal's of the country. And their B-ball team has dominated over some Pac-10 teams in recent years as well.

Boise St and BYU. the two have proved to be competetive each twelve months. The SEC is OVER-RATED. The %10 desires help. The final 2 years has shown that the skills is being unfold everywhere and megastar colleges and small colleges can compete on the comparable field. i'm all in prefer of a few new blood interior the suited 10 and a few new tournament united statescontained in the national Championship activity.

I would expect that if it were to become Pac-12 it woud have to in most of its major sports, none bigger than football and basketball. Looking amongst the Mountain West and WAC the most competitive teams in both sports it would be Nevada and BYU.

Pac Ten teams tend to go in pairs, so I'd go with BYU and Utah, though there had been rumors floating in the past about Colorado and CSU.

You might as well go New Mexico and New Mexico State.....their just as good any given year as the teams you mentioned.... Boise State I like but they've had 3 good years???

The New Mexico Schools have had several good years in their conference and making the NCAA tournament at times.....How about UNLV and Nevada Reno....!!!!!!

at this point boise st. could beat most teams in the pac-10 and would be much more challenging than utah in any year.
