What makes it be a closed system?

The cardiovascular, or circulatory system, is considered a closed system because you dont just have blood floating around in your body...contrary to popular beliefe. :) Our blood is in closed arteries, veins, venules, capillaries, and our heart. It is a closed system because it is encased in the walls of these veins and capillaries and arteries and arterioles and venules and such. Despite what many think, due to the fact that if we cut ourselves we bleed no matter how small a cut, we bleed because we slice open those tiny capillaries or, sadly, sometimes veins and arteries if the cut is bad enough. Any system that is contained within a structure (like our veins, etc.) is considered a closed system. Hope this helped :)

In insects the "blood" literally flows amonst the cells and surrounds them, This is called an open system. Closed systems are enclosed in tubes (blood vessels) which circulate (in a "circle"). To get oxygen, CO2 in and out it is diffused across at the capillaries rather than go directly into cells like in open systems

It works in conjunction with other systems in your body, but it doesn't interact with other systems directly. Completely sealed off.
