I was shot in an attempted robbery while I was working, bullet went in m chest broke some ribs collapsed my lungs, and shattered and fragments went through my stomach and intestines majority or bullet that was left came out my back about an inch from my spineI also lost 3 1/2 pints of blood .I have permanent nerve damage and suffer from chronic pain sometimes can be very severe and keeps me from working. On occasion I get relief when a docotor wants to help with the pain but not real keen on this because I have been suffering for about 10 years now.over the last 6 months or longer is getting to where it is unbareable. I just want to know what other opions I have because being on pain medicine all the time is not an option because either one or two things occur getting addicted to them or they simply stop working for a person or have to change to different kind all the time.So what can I do,my Doctor recently just suggested more physical therapy which I have not had since this firstoccured

I suffer from chronic pain from a nerve disorder called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome which is in my leg. I have been on many medications in which none seem to help so I do not take them anymore. I have had a Spinal Cord Stimulator (SCS) implanted in which it controls much of my pain and has given me most of my life back. It uses electrical impulses to block the pain from reaching your brain, and in place of the pain you get a light tingly sensation instead of the pain. That's the mostly how I've gotten through my pain and I would suggest looking into one. You can get more info about SCS's at www.ans-medical.com I know how bad the nerve pain can get, I hope you feel better!

I suffered from chronic pain for 6 years. I still do. But no longer feel it.
How?
I had a Neurostimulator implanted. It works by sending out a mild electrical current along the spinal cord blocking the pain signals getting to the brain. So you never get to feel the pain hurting you and if you do feel anything, it's a nice, pleasent tingling sensation. It's such a nice feeling that I miss it when I turn it off.
I was at the point of suicide because of my pain and didn't want to take pain killers any more. But I had too.I was sick to death of being off my face on pain meds but had no choice.
My full story is on www.tamethepain.com.au Wendy's Story .
As it is too long and involved for here. It changed my life so much. And gave me my life back. I got off pain killers and have been for over a year. I get total relief from the stimulator.
I am in Australia, so don't know what is covered where you are. Ask you Doctor about it. Or e-mail Medtronic for a Doctor that uses their devices near you.
If you don't ask about it you will never know if your a candidate.
It's beautiful to be pain and drug free.

You obviously suffered a traumatic injury and for that, I am sorry. You must feel lucky to have escaped with your life! I have had chronic pain for much of my life. I taught school for several years and then became a mental health professional and headed a day and residential program for mentally challenged citizens for many years. I raised a family and did volunteer work also. What I am saying is this: I was (am) challenged physically but I rose to the challenge and made the most of the life God gave me. I've been disabled to the point of not being able to work for eleven years now. HOWEVER, life is still good. I can hold my grandbabies, spend time with my family, enjoy my friends, and praise God for all I have to enjoy. I, too, worried about taking medications but then there came a time when I said "ADDICT ME". I'm old enough now and hurt badly enough I'll take my chances. I have wonderful doctors (another blessing) and I take all my questions and concerns to them. Personally, physical therapy hasn't been helpful at all.
But when all is said and done, dealing with chronic pain can be summed up this way. ATTITUDE, ATTITUDE, ATTITUDE.

Have you tried any meditation method to solve this !
I will suggest one simple meditation technique. It is easy but the result will be visible only if you do it regularly. Slowly as you feel the benefits you r confidence will increase and faith will become stronger this is necessary as the psychological frame of mind is very necessary to free the area of pain to let vital energy to rectify the injury. may a times the physical area may be healed but the concept of the hurt may be still held rigidly in the memory thus that area may experience contraction of the involuntary muscles. thus it creates a blockage of flow of vital energy .
Procedure
Sit in a well ventilated room or in the area close to nature.
sit with backbone straight.
just observe the nature and surroundings feel one with everything around you.
Now consciously divert your attention to the flow of air going in and out of your nostrils.
Feel the air as it enters the lungs, try to visualize the expansion of your lungs and the muscles of the chest .
feel that oxygen is slowly being absorbed in to the muscles in the entire chest and body. continuously feel that your body is relaxing.
To know that your method is effective. notice the no of breaths you started with this will gradually reduce to a steady less comfortable and less strenuous effort.
Wish you all the success.

can you afford to go to physical therapy once and ask for a home program designed for you? i have chronic back pain and found the same with medications as you do, either they don't work or loose their effectiveness, or the addiction is just too bad. Do you have some sort of compensation from work that would pay for your treatment? your dr might refer you to a pain clinic, which really helped me.

Really there is no medicine for this problem.
You should try Acupuncture + Naturopathy.
You can try Meditation, that will also help you much more.
Finally the Great GOD. Go on praying Him, He will help in some way, no other hope.

Only a Doctor has the answer of your question and he can give you relief. There is no other way.
I would say, believe the Doctor.
