I am not sure about that.
Although I wonder where all the spirits go and what they possibably do for an eternity.
I can't imagie choosing to come back to a life of torture.

There is story I read once about reincarnation: The famous scientist Carl Sagan was speaking with the Dalai Lama (leader of Tibet and the head of the Tibetan branch of Buddhism).
Sagan asked (I'm paraphrasing here): Suppose that science was able to prove that reincarnation doesn't happen? What would you do then?
His Holiness replied (again paraphrasing): I would of course teach Buddhists not to believe in it.
His Holiness thought a moment, smiled and asked: Incidentally, how would you go about doing that?
Reincarnation, like God, angels, and other religious concepts must be taken on faith and can not be tested, proved, or verified. Either you believe in it or you don't.

There are many instances of children having spontaneous recollections of a previous life.
Regression hypnosis often uncovers previous lives that can cause subjects to sprout forth foreign & sometimes ancient languages.
Seers & mediums, clairvoyants crossculturally and throughout antiquity, have been in touch with this aspect of life.
So yes, I do.
It's not absolutely necessary, though, if we can figure out a way to be liberated from it, through developing / following the right path in life.
I guess that's what all religions teach.
N.B. There were references in the Bible to the idea until the 4th Century AD.
The were removed under the influence of a zealous Roman Emperor at the Treaty of Nicea.
So it really is, pretty universal.

Sure, and it has to do with having gotten my middle name from my older brother's "imaginary friend". My brother was not yet 3 years old when I was born. Before I was born my brother would spend hours with his imaginary friend "Jimmy". I heard this story so many times when I was a kid that I felt cheated. My brother was named after my grandfather and father. All I got was named after was a fictitious figment of my brother's imagination.
So I thought. When I was twenty-five something pretty weird happened. I was in a store before it closed. There were customers and personell busy at the front desk, I was waiting patiently. A customer's toddler, complete strangers to me, was running up and down the wheel chair ramp. Up and down, up and down, I was observing, the childs father wasn't really paying too much attention to him. So the kid keeps toddling back and forth and suddenly stops mid way down the ramp looks up at me and suddenly tells me he loves me.
Every one stops talking, the father says to the boy, "You don't tell starngers you love them. Do you know who that is?
The boy looks a little tortured and tells his father, "That's Jimmy."
The father asks, "Jimmy?"
The boy looks even more strained but replies with a shocker as he reveals who that Jimmy is. That boy is maybe 2 years old and couldn't possibly be able to know about that particular very much dead, very much famous person who died many many years before I was even born.
That was totally bizarre, and so wild that it has to be much more than coincidence, that it is probably true. My life is so much different than that person's, but wouldn't it have to be. I'm not that person, I am me. They only thing that we share is the soul, and wouldn't the soul want to live a better, different, longer life than it lived before?
It changes everything.

I don't know. All I know is that I don't want to come back here repeatedly for all eternity...I would like a way out, eventually.
