A dream occurs only when you are asleep. While a vision is something you can see while your eyes are still open. Or you can fall into a trance or sleep and have a vision. As for hallucinations, God does not give anyone hallucinations. When you have a dream the reality of it is so real, you can not tell the difference between the life you are living now and it actually happening. Unlike most dreams which you forget once you wake up, a dream from God you will never forget. A vision is something that you can see in the air, but it does not have the same feeling as the dream, but it is still from God and can be experience just as powerful.

A dream is something that happens in your subconscious. A hallucination is a result of taking drugs or mental illness and a vision from God is well... a vision from God. How would you know the difference or if God is trying to talk to you? I guess you would have to listen to the message and judge for yourself. Or, when the vision is all over, you could kneal down, pray and ask God if that was him talking to you.... lol.... I can just picture God being like, "Yes, that was me... what? you didn't believe me the first time?"

Your perspective has a lot to do with it.
For most of human history people who would currently be tagged as mentally ill were considered to have a special link to the spiritual world. The ability to "see" was connected to the supernatural.
Another example here would be the use of entheogens(plants used in spiritual ceremonies to enable a mystical experience) by ancient peoples.
Read about "ayahuasca", a tea still used by shamans in central and south america. It is still legal to buy the ingredients to make this brew. See also; 'Calea Zacatechichi' (leaf of god), & Banisteriopsis Caapi (vine of souls) [both common ingredients in this admixture].
The Ethiopian Orthodox Church (which incidentally claims to be in possession of the arc of the covenant), considers cannabis to be one of the old testament sacraments.
Consider verse Genesis 1:29 "And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat."
Mohammed's vision of the arch angel Gabriel came to him only after days in the desert without food or drink.
It sounds like you are close to understanding this phenomenon, I would encourage you to pursue it.
However I would encourage you to do so after careful study. Remember man was cast out of the garden of eden for eating for the wrong plant. Personally I see this as a warning against plants which are toxic or addictive.
If you hear the voice of God you will know.

Dreams are just common natural occurrences. Hallucinations are brought on by illness or drug inducement. visions from God are nonsense. People who think they have visions from God are either dreaming or more likely hallucinating. They are most likely to kill someone.

Dreams and hallucinations are temporary. Visions from God mean that you are mentally ill, and need to be heavily sedated.

A vision from Father God is always the truth and never causes hate. The others can be demonically inspired.

Excellent question. The older I get and the more I study, the more I feel that there is no difference.

The difference is this:
In a case where the individual is representing himself honestly, there is no difference. Hallucination is an illness of a confused mind.
In cases where the individual is representing himself dishonestly - as in most reports of religious visions and voices - it just a lie, (of deceit,) to gain attention or acceptance into a group.
