We sing a song at church by Darlene Zchezck that speaks of this verse like it is one of the promises to believers in Christ. Can we "ask for the nations", as the line goes in the song and know this to be a promise of God to Christians? Do we have an inheritance in the nations which God desires for us to seek for?
8'Ask of Me, and (N)I will surely give (O)the nations as Your inheritance,
And the very (P)ends of the earth as Your possession.

Psa 2:8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession. (ESV Translation)

In other words, God the Father has promised universal dominion to His Son. All the earth will submit to His authority, and His rule will extend from shore to shore.

Yeah, Psalms 2:8 is about God giving the nations over to His Son Christ as His inheritance.

.The second Psalm is about Christ.
Verse 8 is not a promise to Christians.
It is a promise to the Son.
Read the whole chapter, because if you use just one verse you'll get it wrong just like this Darlene Zchezck did in the song you mentioned.

The Psalms are the songs of David. David was Jewish. It is about the Jewish people in the time of David. We can read, pray, sing the psalms today; and they can have great meaning for us in our day to day life because they contain all of the range of human emotion. But they are not a secret code for the Christians.
