Right now its 1:30 am and I'm still up cause I'm having a tough time breathing through my nose. My nose has been stuffed up on and off all day, and now that I'm trying to get to sleep its completely stuffed up.

I bought some cough drops that claim to help clear the nasal passages but they're not working. I also bought a nasal spray, but I can't breathe well enough through my nose to breathe it in.

What else can I try to help me breathe better so I can get to sleep?

When you go out, get some shower soothers. They are large tablets that you place in the floor of your shower. As the warm water runs over them, they melt, releasing vapors that WILL unstop your sinuses. You can get them at wal-mart, drug stores, etc. For now, place a warm wash cloth over your eyes and nose. It will help relieve the pressure.

For initial relief, try the Breathe Right (sp?) strips available at any pharmacy or grocery store. They help open up the nostrils and allow you to breath somewhat better (also great for people who snore). Ask you doctor about steroids for your nose such as Flonase (fluticasone) which will help shrink the nasal passages over time. This medication takes a while to start working (sometimes up to a week), but should eventually start allowing you to breath better. Avoid most decongestants at night since they will often keep you awake. If you are having this much trouble breathing it is time to see a doctor. You can also get an antihistamine, maybe Claritin or Zyrtec which should help with the allergy symptoms as well.

The lortadine is the best over the counter med for allergies. I have actually tried several prescription meds and none have worked for me as well as the lort. and it is very very inexpensive. Also the breath-rite strips work good if you can forget they are there. Also, I have had Benedryl shots and the hurt like H E L L, and only lasted about one week.

I use Breathe-Rite strips to help open up my nasal breathing at night. They pull the sides of your nose open a bit to help air go through. Also try an inhaler.

Sorry you are feeling so bad!

Perhaps you can try some steam to clear up your nose well enough that you can use the spray.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

You have to consult a doctor immediately,
because breathing difficult is a serious problem . Many medicines have side effect ,so it is not wise to take medicines without a doctor ' s opinion.

Afrin (nose spray) OTC Claratin, Benadryl...cough drops aren't for allergies....they have NOTHING that works on allergies. You need an ANTIHISTIMINE...FloNase(spray)...

You also need to see an Allergist if your nose is that stuffy.

I hear you. Sinus problems are miserable. My Dr gave
me Rhinocort. It is prescription only, but my Dr gave me
three samples. I don't use much of it, but it works well.
It is easy to become hooked on over the counter nasal
sprays. My sister was, the Dr told her it was eating up the
lining of her nose. She was off of them for years, then got
hooked on it again.
