Yes anyone can die if they aspirate on vomitus. That is why you can't eat or drink anything after midnight the night before surgery. Normally you don't die from aspirating on vomit but you wind up with what is called aspiration pneumonia.

Anyone can die either from suffocation by aspiration of vomit or of a respiratory infection caused by the aspiration of vomit, and can do so at any time. It's not just about alcohol abuse.

Oh, yes. The literature now says keep a baby on its back for sleeping to avoid such things as aspiration and supposedly SIDS which is sudden infant death syndrome. Anyone can die from aspirating their own vomit, a horrid way to go.
