Lately, my parents have been thinking that I am whacked out and are ready to send me to a therapist. My guidance counselor asked me if I was smoking pot the other day. (which I don't) My G.P.A. has went from a 4.0 to a 2.4 (A's to D's) and I have lost all caring towards the future as far as college and other long-term plans are concerned.

I have been feeling out of it for awhile now. Sometimes I am really hyper and over-dramatic and laugh at stupid things, sometimes things that I am thinking about and not what is being said, so it looks kind of weird to other people. Sometimes I am really sad and just want to crawl into a hole and never come out. I have cut myself and felt very guilty about it after the fact. Sometimes I get paranoid and let my imagination take over, almost hallucinating at times.

I don't know what is wrong with me but I think I do have a problem. However, when my parents ask what is wrong, I cannot bring myself to say anything.

I just say "I am fine" and try to pass off that I am feeling okay. Everyone thinks I am weird and I get self-conscious about it sometimes. Sometimes I think everything is in my head and I am just normal. Sometimes I cannot stand to be with people and everything someone will say will annoy me. It seems my emotions are changing all the time and I have no control most of the time.

Any thoughts?

There is a lot there than can easily be misunderstood.. if you are really uncomfortable with how you feel, talk to a school counselor about it. Also, ask your parents to get you set up with a doctors appointment.
When your thoughts and feelings and emotions are getting the best of you to the point that it is affecting your everyday life, it is time to get some help with things.
There is no shame in having some simple tests done that might be able to lead you in the right direction. Could be a vitamin defiency, a thyroid issue, hormones, a naturally occuring chemical imbalance... it could be a lot of things..
Get yourself some help with this one.. :)
Good Luck with it.

It's called being a teenager, your not crazy, you just have a lot to deal with and it can get pretty overwhelming. Don't stress yourself over it or what other people think. You are questioning your goals and where you want to be in life and that's normal especially since your told you need to have a goal and career picked out by the time you graduate. You fall behind in school when it gets redundant and boring that also is normal, just start applying yourself again and they will come back up. Start watching what you eat, exercise and get back on track , make sure you take a multivitamin and exercise at least 30min. 3 times a week. You'll start to feel like your old self again in no time. Keep your chin up, your not any crazier than any one else here on Saturday night. I'm pulling for you kid.

My thoughts after reading what you have written above is that you are not crazy. You are very aware of what's happening, and you are also aware of who you are and the changes that are taking place within yourself.

My suggestion would be that you go ahead and talk to a therapist. We all have problems at different times in our lives, some of them are very serious. At this point in your life, I believe that this is something that not only needs the outstanding self-awareness that you have exhibited above, but it also needs you to take action to work through these problems. I think what you're feeling is that you know that you can't solve this problem yourself, but you're afraid to ask for help.

Don't be afraid to ask for help. There are many people in your life that love you, and want to help you to be the best you can be. People who would most likely break down right now if they read what you have written above. I know, I'm a father.

Talk to your parents, you don't have to tell them everything if you're not comfortable doing that at this time, but let them know that you've been thinking about their offer and would like to give the therapist a try.

Good luck to you. Remember, you can take this experience in your life as a negative, or you can MAKE IT a positive! You're not alone, and you should be proud of yourself for seeking help.

Take care of yourself.

sounds like manic depressive with delusions a therapist probably won't be able to help you with this You most likely are needing a psychiatrist and I am a psychology student so I usually wouldn't recommend a psychiatrist but delusions are not something to take lightly and not something a therapist can help you with It is important to tell the doctor who is treating you all of your symptoms in detail If you told the therapist that you are having delusions (hallucinations) then I can't fathom why she would still be treating you If you do not feel comfortable with telling your parents everything don't worry they will not be allowed in the appointment with you unless you request if you are over 18 Please don't delay making an appointment you can feel better you just need a little help

You are having major mood swings. Tell your parents you need to see a psychiatrist to figure out what's going on. Your grades have dropped and you are not hopeful about your future, are very sad, and you are in so much emotional pain that you resort to cutting yourself. These are all signs of significant depression.
The hyperness concerns me, too.
If you feel your parents won't take you seriously, talk to your school guidance counselor. They are paid to take you seriously!

You may have manic depression or be bipolar. The good news is that these conditions can be treated with therapy and medication.

Don't be afraid to get help. It can make a big difference with your outlook on life. You don't have to tell your parents what's wrong. Just tell them you'd like to see a therapist, or if you can't say it, just write them a note and put it on the frig. Or go to your school counselor.

Good luck.

It definitely sounds like something is wrong... and it sounds like it's seriously affecting your quality of life. The dip in your grades and the fact that people around you have noticed that something is different is a big sign that something has changed. If you aren't doing drugs, then your mental health just might be the issue. I know that it's hard to talk to your parents about this, but please go to them and ask them to help you get appropriate help. You really have nothing to lose.

Not being what you say the "average black stereotype" does not make you crazy! You said you are extremely quiet and sleep often in class. That by itself is a little weird. Seeing that you only talk to a few other students your classmate probably can figure you out and label you weird because you seem to keep to yourself lot and have a strange habit of sleep in class. I would try open up more to others, be more sociable, & NO MORE SLEEPING IN CLASS!

With your emotions running wild like that, I really feel you need to see a dr. Please just tell your parents you haven't been feeling very calm lately and I'm sure they will get you an appt. (especially since they have noticed a change in you lately). It could be a simple imbalance that meds can take care of. Best of luck.
