A lot of States are looking at restricting the lower end of the driving age range. Studies have shown the younger drivers are involved in more crashes than middle aged drivers. The problem with this is that it is only half of the story. If you look at a graph of recorded crashes you will immediately see that it looks like an upside down bell curve. The higher ends of the graph occur at the younger age as well as the older drivers.

Younger drivers tend to have better reation times but less experience. Older drivers have more experience but react a lot slower.

Older drivers have lobbyist to protect their freedoms (AAA) but younger drivers do not.

The one problem with moving the lower age limit up is that you are only shifting the upper part of the graph to an older age group. You are still going to have an increased crash rate because they do not have the experience.

The one thing that can be done to reduce crashes among the young is to not allow them to have other young people in the vehicle with them. It has been shown in studies that young people drive better when they are alone. They are not taking their attention from the roadway and they do not have the added peer pressure that gets them to do things they normally would not.

let's see,
HHHHHHMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmm......
immaturity?

under 18? in PA 16 is the leagle driving age.
do you know how many 16YO IDIOTS are trying to burn up their parent's 4 bangers while racing down the main strip in the area where I live?

it stopped for about 2 weeks one time, when one of them managed to flip their car at 95MPH. the friction took off both the roof of the car, and the top half of the guy's head. the 2 week stop was the time for the next batch to come of 'driving age'

how about the one where the underage drinking driver managed to run into a tractor trailor, killing all, including the one who was pregnant(and drunk)

the under 18 is still a child in the mind, they see the car as a toy. they are DEAD wrong

They think they are invincible...that nothing will happen to them.

A lot of them are very immature and irresponsible.
