What your asking is actually a complex question that is often biased on educated guesses and speculation.

The reason for this is because we know very little about the early Canaanite theology.

What we do know is that many (probably more than we will know) uses of symbolism, and terminology were present in Canaanite theology.

An example of this is what Archaeologist discovered about the culture of Ugarit, which was a Canaanite city state located in present day Syria.

What Archeologist discovered was religious liturature that decribed a battle of of the sea gods tam and levanathan fighting the god of the sky.

This mirrors the God of the Bible that "plays" with the levanathan.

Their is also a referance to God as a "rider of the clouds" a referance to the Canaanite idea that gods of the sky were good and gods of the sea were bad.
