My husband has been addicted to hydro/soma for three years and has been trying to get off them. In my opinion he has started them again the past couple of weeks. Other then his expressions and attitude the only thing I have to substantiate my opinion is his constricted pupils. He denies that it has anything to do with his drug abuse and states that it is because his contacts are so old. I would like to know if his pupils are not contracting do to the abuse or if it is possible that something else has caused the constriction.

Thanks, Justine

Hydro is short for hydrocodone which is a type of pain pill in the same class as the more familiar loraset or darvaset. Extremely addictive opiate based drugs. Soma is a muscle relaxer that is mixed with it and the combination is called a coctail because of the intense high.

Constricted pupils can only be caused by opiates, and other meds that are vasodialtors, such as blood pressure meds.. My husband has been addicted to Vicodin for 10 years. Wearing contacts has nothing to do with the INSIDE of your eyes. Your perception of his attituted and expressions are probably right on the money. Getting off opiates is often harder than kicking heroin, and should be monitored closely by his Doctor. Tell him you KNOW he's getting high, and then make an appointment for both of you to discuss weaning him off them slowly. Good luck. If you wish you can e-mail me, I can relate, msmaryanne1@yahoo.com

from what i know, he is prob. using again. I am dealing with someone addicted to oxy. I know when he has, because of his eyes - his pupils stay like pin dots and do not change to the light. He will tell me - I'm tired, i don't know what you are talking about, etc. The only thing that should do this to the eyes are drugs or some kind of brain damage. I wish you luck, i know what it is like // it's horrible........

also - not sure what hydro/soma is?

Your husband has a much bigger problem then just getting high, that is one of the reasons he takes his (cocktail) as you put it,your husbands biggest problem is fighting the disease
of addiction. All you can do is tell him you are aware of his using again and that your sorry he wasn't strong enough to
fight this on his own but now it's time for us to get help.He cannot do this on his own.If you love him and I'm sure you do,
tell him what ever it takes you will be with him fighting this but now it's time to see someone who specializes in addiction.
Make sure you tell him you love him and you will do what ever
it takes to get him better.Remember sometimes they need to hit rock bottom to no that they need help. What ever rock bottom is only he knows. So until then there is very little you can do.It takes a very strong person to stand behind someone with an addiction problem. If the two of you get through this he will love you forever.
Good Luck

Justine, My sister in law, answered your question, and you e-mailed her. She is concerned about you, and I want you to know, I watched her go through the same thing. It is a problem from which there is hope, remember, the kids are the victims here. He is a drama king. Get out, take the kids, go to a shelter. Help is available,,,,Good luck.

i don't know any other reason why the pupils are contracting but IF it is drug addiction,i suggest you follow the following steps.first assure him of your trust and that you will never leave him.then remember, big things can't be destroyed in a single day.you have got to stop drug addiction by reducing the number (quantity) of drugs taken per day.you have to reduce and reduce till you get nil.
