I am not a Gordon fan either. I DO think it was an honorable gesture to show that much respect and carry the #3 flag with the tie of total wins on Dale Sr. Day.

Those adults are showing really poor examples for younger kids these days who go to races with their parents and they are being exposed to this kind of behavior. I don't care how much you dislike him you should respect him because he is a great and very talented driver. You should also respect him because he wanted to honor and tribute Dale Earnhardt Sr. in a way that no one else could and that says alot and Jr. congradulated him and shook his hand in Victory Lane for tying his father's record in career wins. That says alot all on its own. I think that you should never throw trash onto the track because what if it doesn't go over and you hit some poor kid in the head and they have to get stitches or something? That would be a hard feeling to get over with. That's why you shouldn't do stupid things like that in the first place.

PS I just remembered that after Jeff Gordon won his first championship in 1995, Sr. had nicknamed him Wonder Boy and The Kid. On the stage after he won the championship he toasted to Dale Earnhardt Sr. with a glass of milk proving that he was The Kid. I thought that was a really special moment in time. I think that honoring and tributing Sr. was the classiest thing to do. If Sr. was still around he would be so proud and may he R.I.P. and I thought it was really classy of Jr. to congradulate him and shake his hand in Victory Lane. Jr. also said " "It's a very good accomplishment for anybody," Earnhardt Jr. said before Gordon notched No. 76. "I'd have to shake Jeff's hand because anytime you tie my daddy in anything, it's something to be proud of." I think that proves how great both guys are and how their rivalries on the track have nothing to do with how they treat and respect each other off the track. Same wiht Sr. the same respect was shown on and off the track but the rivalry on the track was never brought off the track and thye had the highest respect for each other.

What a classless thing for all the non-24 fans to do!! I hope NASCAR can track them down and fine them!!

GEEEZE folks, I thought we were all adults!!

The bottom line is that he deserved the win tonight and he drove to prove it. He could have totally wrecked Tony when he went past him that last time but he didn't...that's the difference between the 2 drivers, if the tables were turned 24 would surely have hit the wall and Tony would be bragging about it.

Like you said, give credit where credit is due and enjoy the moment all you fellow 24 fans...the man is back and I think we will see alot more of the 24 in victory lane over the coming months!!

I thought it was good of him to raise the # 3 flag on his victory lap.... Nascar racing might be about winning, but they are in a "family" of their own. Take last week for instance, I'm certainly NOT a Dale Jr. fan, but it took alot of class for him to jump in the #5 car for Kyle Busch and finish the race. Goes to show you that maybe the driver's show more class than some of the fans. Throwing things on the track is just disrespectful. Many tracks don't allow you to bring much in the track.... wonder why that is ??? Think about it next time you're at a race. There are good fans and then there are fans that are just poor sports !!! Congrats to Jeffie !!!

I don't think he made it to gain fans. He raised the Flag because he has always had respect for Dale Sr. and the tied of wins has been a goal for Jeff. I think it was for showing respect nothing else

Yea I didn't see the #3 flag coming. When his crew chief got on the radio and said he had a "special flag" ready, I thought it was going to be a VT flag. But still cool recognizing the ole man though.

Gordon is truly one of the best, and it was fitting for him to pay tribute to another great when tying his win total. It obviously meant a lot to Gordon to tie Earnhardt. Nice gesture by Jr. as well after the race. Still, there has to be the drunken morons who throw the cans at Gordon for tying Dales win total though. Total lack of class on their part.

Come now, do you think with all the boos at the checkered flag and all the debris that came over the fence to the track he has more fans on his side? NOOOOOOO. If anything taking that flag around the track pissed off the fans even more.

No he did not gain any more fans.
This practice was done by other drivers for other reasons.
Congrats to Gordon.
