Are there any other cheaper methods of protecting your graphics? It appears that trade marking is alittle pricey.

Yes if you think it is going to do really well in the market place. You would have to find out how copyright covers such a thing as a graphic used on a dinner plate. As a visual artist in the painting media I find it useful to sell the copyright of my murals or illustrations to buyers because it is hard to get the income from images if they are used without permission. If you don't trademark your graphic you may not have a leg to stand on if someone does copy your idea. Trademarking it also lets you find out if your graphic impinges on another image too.
