Yes.. several pharmacists open their own pharmacy- most mom and pop pharmacies are run that way. I find those to be more helpful than the huge chain ones (I've found that if the pharmacists knows you well at the local store, he can give you better advice than the large chain stores that don't want to get in trouble- ie: when I was pregnant Walgreen's told me there was nothing I could do for my sinus infection, whereas the local pharmacy gave me all kinds of ideas and home remedies.)

The down side to opening your own pharmacy is that it's hard to compete w/ those larger chains and offer lower prices. A new problem is that w/ Medicaid and Medicare. Here's a link that explains that: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/12/26/eveningnews/main2299160.shtml

I think if someone opens a pharmacy in the right location, they will be successful-- b/c many ppl don't care for "big business" and they would rather deal w/ someone local.

You can, but it is very tough with declining reimbursement rates. The average turnaround for payment for medicade/medicare is 3-4 months. To survive, you have to have a niche.

why not??? If you're determined, industrious and willing, and if you have experience, and you are good in business management... it would not be hard for you to stand your own pharmacy...
