I think it would depend on your religion. If you are a member of a church, you could ask them to remove your membership. Other than that, I don't know.

You don't have to do anything legally. Just don't practice it. If you don't practice it, you're not it. Maybe you should go back to a minister, priest or a rabbi and tell him how you feel about it. He'll just give you a blessing and tell you to go. Do what you want.

Well, I could submit a DD149, but I don't see the purpose other than to annoy someone who doesn't deserve it. It's not like I'll get new dogtags or anything.

You can't.

All you can do maybe is get them to excommunicate you. But they want you on the rolls.

if you live in the US, there is no "official" about it. you never were "officially" anything.
