It can differ from state to state. I live in Texas and here it's 40 years. Unless there are special circumstances.. ie.... Life and one day (they never get out), Serving more than one life sentance. (40 years each), Life + 25 (40+25, 65 years total) Other states will have their own way of applying the sentance. You may have to look to the court system where you live to find out more . Good luck

actually it depends on the sentence if it is just life it is 25yrs but eligible for parole in 20yrs. but then there is life with no parole and you will die there. this is in michigan I am not sure about the rest of the states.

Until you die. You can be paroled early for good behavior, but otherwise it's supposed to be for the rest of your life.
