We have just recently found a lot of mice droppings, and now we're seeing mice everywhere. My dog has been catching them, and we have also found a few dead ones she's caught while we weren't home. And she's had her shots, But I'm still not sure if she can get sick from them or not. But when she catches them, she basically only grabs it and I guess crunches or bites it then spits it out. ( Sorry if the description is gross. ) But I really need to know if she can get sick. This has been going on for a few weeks now.

She can get worms(roundworms)... just deworm her every year as usual and dont let her eat the mice. I have known many, many dogs that killed mice and they never got sick... may have gotten worms but no illness that I know of. You can get sick from mice droppings and urine though so its best to set up traps(NO POISON) block all holes and cracks into your house with spray foam and keep all food in air tight containers.

PS contrart to what one poster said mice cannot transmit tapeworms, only fleas can do that. Dogs get tapeworms from ingesting fleas while cleaning themselves.

Catching Mice

Yes, your dog can get sick from catching mice. You too can be made ill by the droppings. Mice can carry rabies, as well as other diseases. In the southwest, they can carry hanta virus. If the mice have been poisoned from a neighbor (or you) with a standard anti-coagulant rodent bait (such as D-Con, or any other over-the-counter bait that contains warfarin, diaphacinone, or broadificoum), and she eats enough of them, there is the outside risk of secondary poisoning from this bait. It causes an inability to clot blood AND IS FATAL. Vitamin K is antidotal. She should be taken to the vet immediately if you think she's ingesting poisoned rodents.

She could pick up fleas, which are an intermittent carrier for tapeworms (if swallowed). Trust me, mice have fleas and they will "jump ship" the moment the mouse dies - onto (or into) the nearest furry mammal; i,e, your dog.
That being said, if she is on heartworm meds like Interceptor, that also kills intestinal worms; of course she should also have some sort of flea & tick preventative as well.
My only concern would be if she got hold of a mouse that had been poisoned (and was not quite dead yet)

A dog could get roundworms from eating mice, but apparently he doesn't even eat them. I wouldn't worry too much. Roundworms are not a very big deal. You could even give him a dose of roundworm medication now and then to make sure, they sell it in pet stores. But I wouldn't worry too much. You know, lots of cats eat mice all the time and they do fine.
You should find out what the mice are eating and clean it up. This will cut down on the mouse problem.

If the mice were eating any kind of poison you dog might ingest some. You might want to check with your vet and see what he has to say.

Yes your dog can become sick if the mice have been carrying a parisite. Try and stop her, but mostly wont do harm. If dog eats their poo they can sneeze and have loss of appitiate

Yes, she can. Intestinal parasites are the most common issue transmitted from mouse to dog/cat. Also consider that the droppings can potentially make you and your family sick as well. See to it that the little critters are exterminated, and take your dog's stool sample to your vet to have it checked for intestinal parasites.
